One of our "friends" -- used my mother and myself as a credit reference on a loan without my or her consent.

How do I know this? Because I just got a call from the bank. I haven't spoken to him in years for good reason.

He's balls with money and my credit score is totally sweet. Bastard!

My fear is that he has not paid his debts in a timely manner -- I read online that collectors are not allowed to disclose when a debt has gone to collection just that they are trying to reach the person. But knowing him -- he's in deep shit and I'm not digging him out.

So, David, the bank is looking for you. Oh and I don't know your phone number any more -- but If I did I would give it to them in a heartbeat.

Ha Capp! Truth be told I don't curse in person -- I grew up a good Mennonite don't you know. I only curse online and in my mind.

Listing you as a reference won't do diddly to your credit. If they call back tell them that you have no contact with the debtor and that they do not have permission to call you again. Further calls will be considered harassment. I worked as a debt collector, and often had to call references, usually when the debtors skipped out. You'd be surprised what people's grandmas will tell debt collectors.

Are you saying the grandmas would sellout their grandkids? -- tough love baby!

Thanks for the advice mamawho-- tell me more about that job -- sounds stressful, I don't know if I could hack it!

It was stressful. It was when I was managing a jewelry store - we approved and managed accounts in-store, so the people I was skip-tracing and collecting from and taking to court had been my customers. Repossessing jewelry in a state known for high gun ownership is interesting, too. I was never shot at, but I knew people who had been.
