Take one geek-friendly band -- They Might Be Giants -- stir in the promotional power of Disney, and just add water. What do you have? A whole bunch of media goodies related to this week's release of their latest CD/DVD set, Here Comes Science.
First, the paleontology... here's a free mp3 courtesy of the band -- the completely rocking ode to diggin' up dinosaur bones, "I Am a Paleontologist," which features Danny Weinkauf on vocals. And, no, I don't know many of those dinosaurs. Maybe I should learn... Download the track here or stream it below...
Some people are more visual in nature, so here's the video for the song. It comes from their "Friday Night Family Podcast," though for whatever reason this video appeared in their regular podcast. In any case, subscribe to both, 'K? And, yes, those sketched John and Johns appear all through the DVD, the puppets having been resigned to the dustbin of TMBG history.
Now, this video for "Electric Car" has gotten a lot of play on the web, but in case you haven't seen it, please bounce slowly and clap along to the mostly underaged crew carpooling in "Electric Car," one of the most gorgeously animated videos from the album.
They Might Be Giants - "Electric Car"
The song is now available for downloading here. Also, here's a behind-the-scenes look which, yeah, is typical "behind-the-scenes" fluff that looks good but doesn't tell you very much except the video must've been a lot of work. (Scissors, people - scissors!) But it's really good fluff, just as beautiful as the video it's promoting. (And it's not actually on the Here Comes Science DVD.) Watch it here.
Sorry, I've got nothing evolution-related for this post, but I assure you, this album is pro-evolution. What would you expect from an album including the song "My Brother the Ape."
