Non-Texters, Let This Be a Lesson To You

As a movie fan, I believe the best way to see a movie is in the theater.  But that's not always easy, especially for us parents who have to deal with the high cost of tickets, snacks and the even higher cost of babysitters.  And when you get there, some douche-nozzle is usually texting away during the flick.

This is why I wish I lived in Austin.  The Alamo Drafthouse is one of the best places to see a movie in the country.  Partly due to stuff like this:

I think the verbatim transcript of the voicemail is the funniest part.  Though I have to admit that I sometimes check my phone during a movie, usually to make sure the sitter hasn't called.  Hopefully I'm not an asshole.  ;)

it seems the caller is confused. or rather i am. was she texting or was she using her phone for a light? because they are 2 different things. texting during a movie=bad. using a phone light to get to her seat=not so bad. texting while walking to her seat=get a rope.

I LOVE Alamo Drafthouse. On the rare occasion we get out to the movies it's where we go.

Kommish...An occasional peek at your phone is okay, I think, provided that it's brief and you use your hand to shield the light from others.

Andromeda...Seems the caller can't seem to figure out why shining a bright light in the middle of a darkened theater during a movie is a problem.

Bigrygowski...Sure she was.  Sure.

The Alamo is the best. Though, I end up going on Baby Days, most often (without a baby) when there is a lot more tolerance for noise. I can tune out any baby that's not mine though.

Took the boy to see Kung Fu 2 yesterday and some chick had her iphone half the time down in front of us. For some reason in a dark theater our eyes are magnetized to a bright ass light, even in the peripheral vision.

But I gotta say, what was even more annoying was the movie theatre employee who kept walking back and forth across the front for no apparant reason dangling his bright orange batton around.

And being on the topic of annoying in theatres. The seats in the Palos Verdes theatre tilt back even when my boy sits on them, so he is essentially sandwiched between the back and the seat, legs shooting straight up int he air. Would be really funny if I saw some other kid like that, but not funny when I have to drape my leg across his seat to keep him from falling down the crack of his seat. Good times. But he loved it. And ate an entire large popcorn, then wondered why his stomach hurt after the movie.

McGlory...Those baby movies are awesome.

Jay...That's awful.  The seat thing used to happen to the Bean too.  I'm surprised the large popcorn didn't weigh him down enough to hold the seat.  What did you guys think of the movie?

I worked for a couple years as an usher/concessionista and that crap just didn't fly in our theater. My boss expected us to crack down on folks using their phones. We didn't have those batons which made sneaking up on tweens using their phones all the easier. I'm from a small college town and worked at the two screen theater. We knew pretty much everyone who came in but the students were the worst offenders.

A quick check (hiding the screen with your hand) to see if the babysitter called is totally ok btw way.

Totally off topic but the seats seemed designed to shake the change out of pockets. After cleaning up we always came away with a couple bucks in "tips".
