Ben and Jerry's to Serve "Hubby Hubby" This Month

In honor of the first legal marriages of same-sex couples in Vermont, which begin today, Burlington-based Ben and Jerry's will rename its "Chubby Hubby" flavor to "Hubby Hubby" for the month, reports the AP, via the Rutland Herald.

I had a similar idea when Vermont first approved marriage equality, but clearly I wasn't the only one.

The ice cream maker has partnered with Freedom to Marry in order to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and to show its support. They will serve “Hubby Hubby” sundaes in Vermont Scoop Shops throughout the month of September.

CEO Walt Freese said, “At the core of Ben & Jerry’s values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to. From the very beginning of our 30 year history, we have supported equal rights for all people. The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream.”

Ben and Jerry's has long been a supporter of LGBT rights, and it's nice to see them marking the occasion, however they do it. I might just have to celebrate and buy myself a pint.

Yay! CH was already one of my favorite flavors. I'll be watching for it.

I wonder if it will show up in Texas? If so, I will order a case of it from my grocery store!

As far as I know, B&J is limiting it to their Vermont stores--and it's really a special sundae, not a pint, so I don't think they're rebranding the containers. Don't let that stop you from buying a case, though--I'm always looking for an excuse to get the stuff, myself. I'm thinking B&J could make a killing selling limited edition Hubby Hubby t-shirts, though.

While I love that they are supporting the issue, I'm very disappointed that B&J's now uses high fructose corn syrup in some of their flavors. This bums me out. :(

Mombian - awwww that's no fun! I will be sure to buy some anyway as a show of support.
