Now it's confirmed. Dick Cheney has no pulse:

My fear is that if he can change these out every three to five years, what's to stop him from living forever, as a sort of crotchety old Darth Vader/Robocop sort of hybrid? Zoinks!

Had to google that one. Funny! I'm skating some thin ice here, as it's not particularly cool - at least in my book - to enjoy the misery and misfortune of others. Even such an execrable person as Dick Cheney. But I was just more sort of riffing off the fact that there've been so many "vampire," "Darth Vader" and "undead" jokes about him for so long, that the fact that he actually has no pulse now is kinda funny/creepy.

I agree- it is shaky ground... I wouldn't say it if Dr Izzy Stevens was real (or Dick Cheney for that matter).
I don't look at this as his misfortune or misery- I think he is incredibly fortunate to be alive. Years ago before this type of device was available this story would be very different. He also is very fortunate that he has access to that type of medical care.

Perhaps that's the takeaway line from all of this: "Government-Run Health Care Saves Dick Cheney's Life (Again)." ;-)

A cardiologist commented on a blog somewhere that this isn't the kind of thing someone actually WANTS. He said the comments from Cheney's camp are kind of PR Pollyanna and that these pumps are somewhat of an end game. It seems they do them when they know the patient has months to live and are being placed on the transplant list. He said most die within the year, but Cheney will probably pull a Steve Jobs and get a transplant before everyone else. I thought there were age limits on transplants?

There are entrance requirements to get into Harvard and Yale, too. But somehow, they let Dubya in.

Everybody has somebody who loves them. Even Cheney, though probably not that dude he shot.
