Carolina Rollergirls

kid interview: Carolina Rollergirls match Nov.21st

What did you like about them?--I saw the black ones and the pink ones.

What did they have on their helmet?--stars

(the jammer has a star on her helmet)

How did they go fast/ what are those things on their feet?

I don't know.

Clearly this match had more impact on me than my kiddo. It was awesome to see a women's sport I could actually get into. Soccer and Basketball never did it for… Continue

Keeping Thanksgiving Around

Photobucket

Poor Thanksgiving, always getting lost in the shuffle of holidays. You can jazz it up with Tofurky or turducken or a 30-quart fryer for your turkey . . . but brother, it ain’t Christmas. Even in my own family, where I’ve tried to maintain a purist November = Thanksgiving… Continue

How Exciting!

I'm going to be a published writer of patterns!... In Japan! One of my college friends met a married a guy whilst studying abroad in Japan. She has her own business (hand woven yarns) and has started a knitting magazine there.

Sailor and I opened up an etsy shop two months ago. It was started to give Sailor a reason to sit down and sew up some cool clothing ideas he's been tossing around. However I've been on a knitting and crocheting kick since… Continue

Flu Shot Clinics Are This Year’s “Baby Loves Disco”

Photobucket

It was a dark and stormy afternoon, and the kids and I were haunting aisle after spooky aisle of Halloween displays at our local kick-ass holiday store. All manner of ghosts and ghouls adorned every corner, not to mention crowds of college students shopping for their last-minute sexy witch costumes. But the… Continue

A Computer Generated Christmas

I guess I just have to accept it, Christmas now starts on November 1st. Not only were stores immediately adorned in tinsel with carols playing over their loudspeakers the day after Halloween, but it’s not even a week into November and the holiday movie season has also begun.

This weekend brings us Disney’s A Christmas Carol. I think it’s worth noting that even though Dickens wrote this over 150 years ago, Disney has decided that it will now own this story, along with Snow… Continue

Mr. Clean

It was a typical Sunday morning for AJ and I. We sat on the couch, him with residual maple syrup smeared on his face, me downing my fourth or fifth cup of coffee. The NFL was on the big screen, the laptop was open to my various fantasy teams. We were screaming at the TV, as is our wont, basking in the pure spectacle of glorious gladiatorial mayhem.

Also, we were still in our underwear.

Emet emerged from the back room (which… Continue
