I was one busy Mama. This day we went to the Halloween Parade at Morgan's preschool, got in to see my doctor, got sent to the hospital, got admitted, got some cervadil, started labor, and had Max, all in about a 6 hour time span. It was one intense Halloween!

I can't believe my baby (soon to be middle child) is 4 years old! Where did the time go?!…

A South Carolina deputy assistant attorney general who said he was on his lunch break when an officer found him with a stripper and sex toys in his sport utility vehicle has been fired, his boss said Wednesday. Roland Corning, 66, a former state legislator, was in a secluded part of a cemetery in downtown Columbia, S.C., when an officer spotted him Monday, according to a police report. As the officer approached, Corning sped off, then pulled over a few blocks away. He and the 18-year-old woman…

So here's the deal with getting Pearl Jam tickets. If you are a fan club member (Sara), your seats are randomly assigned and you only get 2. The members have no choice in this. Trade off is you always get killer seats. So Sara purchased her 2 tickets for the Key Arena (Seattle) show on September the 22nd, this happened either right before or right after Viola's arrival. Foolish us, we both planned to go. I know, I know.
So about 2 weeks before the show Sara decides that I would need…

For some sleep deprived reason I have just started a children's record label called Crispy Juice while on maternity leave from my job as a historian. Not content with broken nights sleep with four children who take it in turns to show the first symptoms of swine flu (none of them progressing any futher- yet), I am now glued to my computer well into the early hours trying to get a grip on how to write a press release, where to buy the cheapest…

So, my SIL is getting married on Jan 1. It seems I am a bridesmaid, which I've been fortunate enough to avoid thus far. Probably because my few girlfriends who have gotten married know how impossible I am to fit. My MIL and SIL are shopping for the dresses in TX. I hope they find something at a chain store, so I can try it on before they buy it.
I wear a petite because my waist is really high and my shoulders are really small. I'm all kinds of disproportionate, which wasn't a problem…

and a host of other issues, I've made yet another website. This time though it's not a blog or a business - so it'll be less of an issue for me to stay on top and not disappear for long stretches of time. It's just a directory - nothin' fancy but since ya'll are a learned crowd I'd like to hear your suggestions for links/sources.

[Updated: 10/24, 10:40 a.m. ET:
Change.org has posted an action alert about this, complete with an easy automated message you can send to Scholastic.] Most of us with young children in public school know about Scholastic Book Fairs. Many of us remember them from our own childhoods. Now comes news that Scholastic has banned a book from the fairs because one of the characters has lesbian…

“Night on Bald Mountain” from Disney’s Fantasia
It’s not very often that I feel compelled to reach through the computer and give a fellow blogger a 12-Step-style hug, but I had a moment like that reading Daddy Geek Boy’s recent
post about reconciling one’s love of pop…

I am so PISSED OFF.
Husband plays a show, drives home tipsy [awesome, what are we 20] and is now laying around complaining of a headache and talking about how "he had a good night"
Which you know, is fucking fantastic. I'm going to the vet [again] and have been up with a toddler since 6am.
And what REALLY makes me pissed is this: If I played a show [yeh right] got drunk and wanted to have a lay in I would so not be able to, being the MOM and all.
FUCK.

Ebay had her two year physical last night. She's 31 3/4 inches tall (10th percentile), 27 pounds 7 ounces (50th percentile). She's gained about 2 inches and 7 1/2 pounds just since March. We can lay off the extra formula and Pediasure for weight gain.
Never thought I'd be so happy about extreme weight gain!
She's perfectly healthy, and meets all milestones for a two year old, even in speech. Even her sleep is improving. She's not nightmare free yet, but we're managing with…

This good news almost makes up for the bad news of my
previous post. The Montana Supreme Court last week affirmed a trial court decision granting a “parental interest” to Michelle Kulstad, a lesbian mom who had been co-parenting two children legally adopted only by her ex-partner, Barbara Maniaci. Under state law, the women could not jointly adopt. Maniaci is now married to a man and says she is…

This has been the year of the vampire.
Twilight has all the tween girls (and some adults) aflutter;
True Blood showed us that vampires can be southern fried and sexy; and
The Vampire Diaries proved that soap operas and the supernatural make a rather alluring combination. Rounding out this year's fixation on undead bloodsuckers is
The Vampire’s Assistant.
Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is an upcoming movie based on the book series
The… Continue

Despite having grown up Monopoly – that is, despite being the spawn of big spenders Mr. Monopoly and Mr. Mr. Monopoly – I am not known for my own profligate ways. Quite the opposite, in fact; I'm kind of a cheap bastard (or "basterd," as the kool kidz spell it), at least as far as
things are concerned. Don't get me wrong, I do spend money, but my rule seems to be that if something lasts longer than two weeks, I don't want it. So essentially, my mad cash, such as it is, is burned on…

I know computer time is supposed to count as “screen time” for kids, the same as sitting in front of the television. I’m not going to dispute it because I’m sure I don’t have an academic foot to stand on from an early-childhood-development perspective. But I will say that, at least in our house, computer time
feels different from TV time somehow.…

Due to 5 college degrees and three college jobs, my husband and I have moved 11 times since our respective high school graduations. Three of those times have been returning to my parents, but the area has changed so much that it's new each time. I used to think that all this moving sucked out loud and I just wanted to be settled, but a great walk yesterday during lunch kindof gave me an epiphany.
Currently we live in Northern VA, very suburb-y and slowly the older 1970's townhouses…

... it'd sound a little bit like this.
Making music that's truly for younger kids but has enough musical hooks for the parents is a lot more difficult than countless kids' music press releases make it appear. I've always appreciated
Rocknoceros' skills in that regard, and they seem to be negotiating that fine line when it comes to their videos, too. Their latest video from their album
Pink!, for "Can You Tell Time" doesn't…

With Sailor out to sea for a week I had scheduled a fun day at the State Fair with the boys and a friend. "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong." That was our day. First thing to happen was my friend getting called away to do something for work, she's in NOAA Corp so this happens a lot.
Here was where I made my first mistake, in thinking that we could go it alone and the three of us would be just fine. Ha!
It might be easier…
