You're Despicable

Evil and cute are two things that don’t usually go together. Yet in the charming new computer animated movie, Despicable Me, evil and cute go together like chocolate and peanut butter.

The evil in question goes by the name of Gru. He’s a pointy nosed fellow who looks like the love child of Dr. Evil and Uncle Fester. Gru has earned his place in the world by being mean, evil and well, despicable. He’s the kind of guy who will delight… Continue

I Love my Hubby.......

But seriously??!! He is THE slowest person I have ever met. Everywhere he goes, everything he does, he goes/does SO SLOWLY.

I wanted to move the kids rooms around today. Really badly. It's a hormonal nesting thing and if it doesn't get done I'll never get to sleep. Last year we had to buy new living room furniture before I could settle down. This year, I have got to get the rooms settled. The new baby is a girl and will therefor be sharing the bigger bedroom with her older…

Holy Crap. In Which I Have No Social Skills

Clearly, I missed a class somewhere. Maybe it was back in second grade when I had strep throat and chicken pox for three weeks (and also missed US Geography). Maybe it was in the first 45 minutes of Hebrew School that I missed every Tuesday and Thursday because my school went an hour longer than the public schools.

I've moved a lot in my life (the count is between 16-18 homes and apartments since I was born, and that's impressive for a…

Holy Crap. In Which We Use Our Marbles.

So, how did I do last week? I managed to get in two actual workouts (we're not counting the times I just got hot & sweaty in general), cleaned & organized the pantry and most of the kitchen (!!!), dealt with five baseball practices and games, shlepped to three doctor's offices, dragged the kids to preschool playgroup, and set up the Marble Jar. (See where I got the concept here at Family Fun…

Seven lessons learned the first real week of motherhood

The official first week was spent in San Diego at Legoland, Seaworld, beaches, etc., and didn't give me much of a taste of real life with child. This past week was the first time I had to get up early and help her get ready, give her breakfast, pack a lunch, and drive her to day care, put her to bed every night, etc. Here are just a few of the lessons I learned:

1. A five-year-old cannot be expected to climb into a car seat while wearing a backpack.

2. Explicit directions and… Continue

I Scream, You Scream

Photobucket

You know, ice cream is delicious and all, but it sure is high maintenance for something that’s supposed to be a lighthearted summer treat. Seriously. It’s not just a dessert; it’s an event dessert, a destination dessert. We shepherd the kids through long lines and help them sort through the choices – Cone or dish?…

Petty Little Me

Gee, you know, if I keep this up you guys are going to start to think that all I do is whine and complain. I'll have to post something more upbeat and junk later. Onwards and sideways:

Growing up, my Momma used to sew a lot of things for us on her ancient Singer. When I got to be around 9-10 she started showing me how to use the machine, and I've pretty much been stitching up nonsense ever since. When I started having my own babies, it seemed like home stitched clothing had…

OW OW OW!!!

DISCLAIMER: The following blog is full of complaining, bitching, and moaning.

I woke up this morning to terrible, "charlie-horse" type leg cramps in my right leg. The muscle would just sieze up and you could actually feel the leg heat up from it. I wasn't even doing anything! I was just laying there and BAM. Pain.

I am so ready for this baby to get here. This has been, by far and large, the WORST pregnancy I've had. With my first pregnancy I never even got the morning…

(step)MOM

I've been a stepmom for 12 days now. But we just say mom, or mommy, or this morning, mama. I think I'll call her Ladybug. I did a search on Offsprung and didn't see anyone else using that name for their kid. I forgot to mention on my profile that I'm geeky about names and naming. I've been thinking of her handle since last fall when her dad and I had only been dating about four months.

But now - NOW! She is MINE - whahahahaha!!!!!! Mine to read to at bedtime and drive to day care and… Continue

Name That Kid

The latest top baby names are in, via this article on PBS or directly from the Social Security Administration, and I guess I should not be surprised how much pop culture influences the choice of baby names. From vampires to glee clubs, football players to reality TV stars, ideas come… Continue

Holy Crap. Day II

Since I didn't start writing immediately after my layoff, let's just pretend that Day II of blogging is my real Day II. Actually, the day numbering doesn't matter -- since I can barely tell what day of the week it is anyway.

So far on my path to righteousness -- or at least, semi-presentatbleness -- I'm at maybe 60 percent. I did the Wii Fit two days in a row now, impressing the heck out of the personal trainer. (And by the way, Nintendo,…

This Morning:

This morning I ate left over, cold pasta salad for breakfast.... oh, with a Mtn Dew.

This morning, the Boy-Bob had diarhea. Again. Fourth time in two days. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the Girl saw this coming??

Then, the kiddos entertained themselves by opening and closing the trash can lid while I ate breakfast.

When they tired of the trash can lid they played with the Girl's new kick ball in. the. house. Something was broken, but I've yet…

Holy Crap, I'm One Of Them

Hi, I'm a stay-at-home-mom. I hadn't been, pretty much ever, since having my first child at the millenium's dawn. For over 10 years, I handed my net pay over to a very nice Belizian woman who fed and changed my sons, kept me apprised on our grocery list needs, swabbed the toilet and wiped down the counters, and basically was my very own housewife.

I got laid off on May 7th, for the second time in my life, and though I got a longer severance…

Things My Kids Say:

I guess that technically, that post title should read: Things my 5 year old daughter says, because she is currently the only child we have who is speaking. The boy, being only 10 months old mostly just makes sounds. "Ba" being his favorite. The Baby, being in the womb doesn't make much noise that we can hear.

ANYWAY, all of that aside, The Girl is always saying things out of the blue that I don't expect at all, and for some reason, she likes to save them up for when we are in…

Toy Story 3 (a spoiler free review)

Ironically, the original Toy Story marks the beginning of my adult life. It came out the summer that I graduated college. I had moved to a new city and was struggling to adjust to a great many things. I have vivid memories of sitting in a theater with my friends on a Saturday afternoon, surrounded by screaming kids and harried parents. But when the lights went down and the movie splashed across the screen, it didn’t matter how old any of us were—the… Continue

Spontaneous Summer?

Photobucket

Well, here we are. Summer vacation. It’s always such a busload of expectations, isn’t it? There’s more to this season than just a pleasant change in the weather, I tell you. It means something. The school year, with all its frustrations and challenges, simply ends. No more pencils, no more books. The routine we were slave to all those months simply… Continue

Dad of the week

At least I am assuming it is Dad. For father's day comes this touching story about a boy with a loose tooth. I can only hope they develop this into a marketable product.…
