Alvin & the Chipettes: A Review and Giveaway

Three years ago, our kids went crazy for Alvin & the Chipmunks and I can totally understand why. Say what you will about the flicks they had the same easygoing charm that made me love the cartoon in the 80s.

New on DVD this week is the ‘Munks collection Alvin & the Chipettes: Cinderella Cinderella. Because The Squeakuel was one of the few movies that my… Continue

Safety Dance

Little Girl had her first brush with crime recently. That time when the K-9 Unit chased a guy through our backyard doesn’t count since she was only a baby. This incident was a lot less dramatic, but still pretty unnerving. Some guy followed a parent into our little cooperative preschool at pick-up time, walked down the hallway to the cubby area, and helped himself to some purses (not mine, thankfully, although it was sitting right there with a big “steal me” sign on it).…

Aftermath

It's been nearly four months since the worst of my depression. Wow. Was I feeling crappy or what? Big thank you's need to go out to Ellie and Kiwi for pestering me by phone, and for making me get out of my house so I could get some badly needed objectivity. Big thanks to PhD Friend (who isn't on here, but so what) and also Floor Pie for mentioning Dr. John Gottman. (Not to me, directly but seeing it mentioned was helpful.)

So things still aren't perfect. But they are better. Is he… Continue

Just when you are ready to kill them...

This is long, so bear with me…

As many of you know, I teach part time at a Catholic school that my boys attend. I’m not Catholic but my husband is and the boys are being…

Post op musings, in no particular order

* I wanted to be one of those people that other people could later say about "Even with all she went through, she never complained!". Yeah. Not so much. I've worked really, really hard on staying positive, but I'm a week out, still can't take a full breath without gasping in pain much less move around easily or do pretty much anything for… Continue

Do What's Easy

As I sit in front of Tom and Jerry in the other room, working on my latest photos of the newborn, Lilly was trying to give her a bath while our 22 month old was tormenting her with frantic screaming and torturous whining. He wanted to take a bath also. For twenty minutes I bore witness to this scene. And no, I couldn’t pry him away from the bath if I tried, which I did. My wife was pleading with him to stop throwing things, stop crying, to stop acting crazy, and to stop repetitively sliding and… Continue

taking a break

So, this is the first online community that I've ever really been a part of, and there have been a lot of things about it over the last two years or so that I've really enjoyed, and times that people here have definitely helped me out. Offered advise, given perspective, talked me down from mama-craziness. I love that people have a sense of humor, that I've felt safe to rant about my kid or husband or life. I've liked that there seem to be people here parenting their kids in lots of different… Continue

THanks for the well wishes

(and, advance apologies for typos etc....I'm on percocet and am pretty well out of it).

I believe Loki told everyone what happened. Still boggles my mind to think that my anatomy is so completely off. I am in a LOT of pain (surgeon said I am pretty enjoying the pain from 3 different surgeries instead of just one). I have a 11-12 inch incision running right up the middle of my belly, plus theoriginal lap incisions, and the drain incision. I am well and truly the bride of…

Go Ask Alice or Alice in Chains or An Alice in Wonderland Review

From the moment the breakfast machine started up in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, I was a fan of Tim Burton. Beetlejuice is one of my all time favorite movies. Without his Batman, we wouldn’t have

the comic book movie renaissance we have now. When Burton teamed up with Johnny Depp, they gave us Edward Scissorhands and one of their… Continue

Surgery date approaches!

My gastric bypass is now scheduled for Tuesday 3/9 at noon. I'm getting more excited and nervous all the time. I will be out of work for 2 weeks, and it's been weird to tell people here that I'll be out, without telling them why. I'm sure they all think it's for "female issues". (God, I hate that phrase).

I also told my mom this week. I wasn't going to tell her until afterwards. I've had this strange feeling of....well, shame, I guess....about having this done. I don't know…
