"DGB: "Fun" for my 3 and 6 yo is a totally different measure than "fun" for you and me. ;) I think my boys will like A&O, but, no it's not on the same level as, say a Pixar movie or even the better Dreamworks movies. Then…"
"I want to work for Pixar.
Also, Alpha and Omega looks like fun. I'm always excited to see a half-way decent kids movie that's actually *worth* the small loan I have to take out to take the whole family out to the movies. ;)"
"First ... I suggest TWO ipods - one per kid. Mine - 3 and 5, both want to play the games on my iphone ALL. The. Time. Having said that, our faves are (in no particular order):
Monkey PreSchool Lunchbox
Giraffe's PreSchool Playground
"See, and I cringe to see a comma before the "and" in a series. ;)
As my higher education and professional writing experience have all been journalism and then PR writing, I've been using AP Style Guide as my grammatical bible (and…"
"Yes, en-dash is the typographical name for a hyphen. And an em-dash would be the typographical name for a "regular" dash. The difference is that a hyphen (or en-dash) is used to join words (such as with compound modifiers) and a dash (or…"
You know, I really think this is one of those rare instances when you could justify using either i.e. or e.g. in this case. It reads correct either way:
"the dash between a number and a length measurement (IN OTHER WORDS,…"
"It doesn't apply to every instance, but one rule is that you hyphenate (it's a hyphen, btw, not a dash) compound modifiers. For example: "The four-foot fence" is hyphenated because the words four and foot are being used in…"
"Just so happens, I've been working on a list of books I want to read with my 5-year-old Adventurer/Geekling. Highlights include:
Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Chronicles of Narnia, anything by Rahld Dahl, "hero" stories from Geek and…"
"I'm looking forward to this one so much. As you say, you just can't go wrong with Pixar. And we all have a soft spot for Buzz and Woody and the gang here. :) This is a really nicely done review. Makes me want to go right now. ;)"
"This was very informative. Thanks!
I don't have anything against remakes in general: Some of them can actually be good. But I think it's sad that Hollywood is so averse to trying out new ideas.
I love Shakespeare's plays. I've…"
"I'd be curious to hear your opinion on, say, a Top Ten Movies of All Time. And on the topic of Sequels that Don't Suck.
I'm also curious about movie making in general. But, honestly, I'm too ignorant of the subject to form any…"
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
That there are only two of them? No, actually, just about everything about my kids makes me happy.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
I'm disturbed by the numbers of parents who don't teach their children basic manners or consideration of others.
What are you nerdy about?
Oh so many things. I'm a card-carrying sci-fi geek and I love gadgets.
Music: I love all kinds. My mp3 player is the very definition of eclectic. But Barenaked Ladies is one of my favorite groups.
Books: Science fiction and fantasy novels and everything byDean Koontz.
Movies: I love sci-fi and action movies best, but really, I like everyting except horror.
