Education advice

hi y'all! Been a while since I had an issue I felt like I needed to post about. This isn't major, but I could use a little advice - from the teachers in our group, or people who know more about this than I do. :DAhem. Anyway, Big B has completed the first round of STAAR tests. He passed just fine, but his reading comprehension showed a rather low score for literature analysis. Which...he's in fifth grade. How much of that is he supposed to be doing? And actually, I'm wondering if they even have…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I don't know...what do YOU think? :D
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
Watching their minds at work.
What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?
My son informing me (loudly) that a fellow shopper's groceries didn't look very 'healthy'.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
The competitiveness. Trying to compare children is like debating the merits of kiwis and kumquats.
Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?
Just me, but minus the mommy part. I had combed hair, perky boobs, and a full night's sleep. I read books from cover to cover in a day, played some video games, and interacted with other adults on a regular basis. I also earned a paycheck.
What are you nerdy about?
I don't think I qualify for that...
Favorite music/books/TV/movies:
Oh hell. There is not enough space here for my favorites, because I can never settle on one. However, right now I'm into watching Naruto and Castle. I'm still mulling over "Jitterbug Perfume", and I'm in the middle of watching "Volver". Chris Cornell has been on repeat on my ipod.
OPTIONAL: Do you have a sex life?
I think everyone who knows me already knows the answer to this, and no one else really needs to know that!

When IRL comes and bites you on the ass

I'm sure Madam Ellie has informed most of you via Facebook, but I had some identity theft issues this week. It's been...weird. A couple of months ago, Google informed me that my email account had been accessed from Malta, of all places. I followed their recommended procedures for changing my password, and will probably start changing them on a regular basis.

Then this last week, (on my birthday no less!) I got an automated call from my bank informing me that they had detected…

On the health front, I've been fighting several irritating battles. Apparently, getting my liver condition under control was just the first step. I've had a couple other issues pop up in the wake of that diagnosis, that aren't particularly serious, but manage to add to my vitamin-taking count.

To make a long, incredibly boring, and potentially TMI story short, I haven't been hitting the gym quite as often as I should, due to some rather nasty nausea issues. (No, not pregnant.) So when…

Sadly, it is apparent to me that my Offsprung blog posts will all probably be about my irritation with my husband. I'm not particularly happy about that, but in a way I'm grateful that it is one of the few issues I have that's big enough requiring me to let off some steam.

So, to the source of my current ire. AlphaGeek is in Barcelona for a week and a half, for some stupid conference or another that is being hosted at a five star Hyatt. On the beach. Great. Yeah, I could go…

Know-It-All Sister just started posting photos from her visit to our parents last month. There, a photo of her, High Maintenance Sister and our mom and dad. First comment? "What a beautiful family!"

I am not in the photo, since I wasn't in town yet.

Aftermath

It's been nearly four months since the worst of my depression. Wow. Was I feeling crappy or what? Big thank you's need to go out to Ellie and Kiwi for pestering me by phone, and for making me get out of my house so I could get some badly needed objectivity. Big thanks to PhD Friend (who isn't on here, but so what) and also Floor Pie for mentioning Dr. John Gottman. (Not to me, directly but seeing it mentioned was helpful.)

So things still aren't perfect. But they are better. Is he… Continue
