I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling...I'm so sorry you got such bad news. Even if you were sort of expecting it, hearing it said out loud is awful. Spend some time being kind to yourself, and try not to beat yourself up about…

Okay, I'm just silly. PM me, and I'll send you the links to the hospital she is at.

She may be in the hospital for a while. We need to get Kiwi on board with this, because she is the closest, and will have the best access. She messaged us to see what our availability would be for possible visits. I think if you wanted to mail a…

wookie - is there a search site similar to Local Harvest for your area?

Yeah, we're up there. We get our meat delivered from a farm once a month, to the tune of $225. The delivery usually includes a dozen eggs, as well. I don't buy any other meat, unless I need something specific, which is not very often. I…

You know, I'm a terrible IRL friend. I'm introverted with a strong, hermit-like streak, and social anxiety. It's hard to get me to commit to plans. Having said that, I don't think I have a defriending style, because I think…

The daughter of the director of our school just went through this. A couple of years ago, I noticed her looking a bit on the chubby side. Whatever happened, happened over the summer because in the fall when we got back to school, she had really…

I think her eating sounds fine - the ice cream she's getting is probably the standard serving size, so that may not be the culprit unless she's eating more than one at a time. The only difference between the lunches we pack for our kids,…

I think this is such a great topic. Growing up, I was both introverted and also believed myself to be very loyal to the friends I did have, so this concept of "defriending" was pretty alien - I believed that I never ended friendships.…

Aww, thanks. I am glad we're friends too. :) Time is probably a good thing. Maybe I'll feel differently in 6 years. Right now I'm hurt and feeling small and petty and thus not convinced a terminal disease would change my mind. :P

Weeeeell, I don't know how much generosity was a part of it. It was simply that so much time had passed. Our friendship broke up about 6 years ago, so the initial resentment (on both sides) probably had time to die down. And, like some folks…

Thanks for the update! I'm glad it turned out so well. Not to threadjack, but I've been thinking a lot about long term friendships lately. It became clear recently that a dear friend of mine for over a decade was ending our friendship. It…

Hey, I just stumbled over this thread again so here's an update! Apparently my overtures to Twin #1 were so well-received that I ended up visiting her last June with the Little Miss. I had sent her a card from both kiddos, and a note from me…

You all inspired me to finally clean my side of the closet. I actually have a stack of clothes to donate now! I had no idea I was hoarding so many pairs of pants that didn't fit!

Profile Information

About Me:
I don't know...what do YOU think? :D
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
Watching their minds at work.
What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?
My son informing me (loudly) that a fellow shopper's groceries didn't look very 'healthy'.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
The competitiveness. Trying to compare children is like debating the merits of kiwis and kumquats.
Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?
Just me, but minus the mommy part. I had combed hair, perky boobs, and a full night's sleep. I read books from cover to cover in a day, played some video games, and interacted with other adults on a regular basis. I also earned a paycheck.
What are you nerdy about?
I don't think I qualify for that...
Favorite music/books/TV/movies:
Oh hell. There is not enough space here for my favorites, because I can never settle on one. However, right now I'm into watching Naruto and Castle. I'm still mulling over "Jitterbug Perfume", and I'm in the middle of watching "Volver". Chris Cornell has been on repeat on my ipod.
OPTIONAL: Do you have a sex life?
I think everyone who knows me already knows the answer to this, and no one else really needs to know that!

Finally some good news!

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 11:31am 4 Comments

On the health front, I've been fighting several irritating battles. Apparently, getting my liver condition under control was just the first step. I've had a couple other issues pop up in the wake of that diagnosis, that aren't particularly serious, but manage to add to my vitamin-taking count.

To make a long, incredibly boring, and potentially TMI story short, I haven't been hitting the gym quite as often as I should, due to some rather nasty nausea issues. (No, not pregnant.) So when…

Okay, now I'm kinda pissed.

Sadly, it is apparent to me that my Offsprung blog posts will all probably be about my irritation with my husband. I'm not particularly happy about that, but in a way I'm grateful that it is one of the few issues I have that's big enough requiring me to let off some steam.

So, to the source of my current ire. AlphaGeek is in Barcelona for a week and a half, for some stupid conference or another that is being hosted at a five star Hyatt. On the beach. Great. Yeah, I could go…

Know-It-All Sister just started posting photos from her visit to our parents last month. There, a photo of her, High Maintenance Sister and our mom and dad. First comment? "What a beautiful family!"

I am not in the photo, since I wasn't in town yet.

Aftermath

Posted on March 19, 2010 at 3:30pm 15 Comments

It's been nearly four months since the worst of my depression. Wow. Was I feeling crappy or what? Big thank you's need to go out to Ellie and Kiwi for pestering me by phone, and for making me get out of my house so I could get some badly needed objectivity. Big thanks to PhD Friend (who isn't on here, but so what) and also Floor Pie for mentioning Dr. John Gottman. (Not to me, directly but seeing it mentioned was helpful.)

So things still aren't perfect. But they are better. Is he… Continue
