Kids and tablets

The tech kind. Not the pharmaceutical kind.So I am thinking of kicking my luddite parenting style in the ass and getting the girls a tablet to share. I didn't even know they knew of their existence but E was going on about her dad's ipad the other day. I don't want to shell out a lot of money for a tablet for me that they can use because I could care less about having a tablet and know I'd be in a constant panic about them breaking it. Some of the kid-specific ones look more durable and…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
Solo queer parent of twin girls. Food lover.
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
They make it possible for me to find joy in every day. I love watching them eat yogourt, and feed it to each other.
What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?
My daughter saw a Hasidic man in one of those round furry hats and yelled, "Mama, that man has a silly hat!" I told her that just because she was seeing it for the first time, it didn't make it silly, and that it wasn't nice to yell out such judgements because they could hurt feelings. She said, "But Mama, it IS a silly hat" and wouldn't budge on the point.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
Consumerism. Mommy wars. Gender norms. Single mother stigma. Idiocy.
Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?
The same person I am now, just less amazing and less exhausted. More hungover, certainly.
What are you nerdy about?
English grammar, but only in formal written documents. I am aware I just used a sentence fragment.
Favorite music/books/TV/movies:
These change by the day.
OPTIONAL: Do you have a sex life?
Bien sur.

I've always had really terrible, heavy periods.  Their only positive quality is that they have been regular, for the most part, every 26 days.  But they are intense and I get migraines, indigestion, cramps, back pain, and extreme mood swings, not to mention severe acne.  That has definitely been wearing on me.   I haven't taken birth control pills since I was 23 since they made me kind of crazy and made me feel that I wasn't inhabiting my own body; I am also icked out by their environmental…

Hi everyone, former doublebooked, on fb as GG, back again.  I hadn't checked in in months and was compelled to visit after seeing HBD's posts and just wanted to say I am sorry I ever tuned out and haven't been here for these past two... years!?  I could have used you guys a million times over for general advice/consolation.  I don't even know where to begin.

All I'll say for now is that it's nice to be back, and I've read the past several blogs, and am amazed at the strength…
