Rob O. commented on Reeling's blog post 'This Is Your Wallet On Cars'
"As a longtime Pixar fan and father of a little Pixar fanatic, it feels weird to say it, but lately the company has been letting me down.  Cars had a message and heart.  The message in Cars 2 was too weak and the content too violent. …"

Rob O. commented on TykeGeist's blog post 'Star Wars Sea Monkeys? Turn the Ship Around.'
"Perhaps I'm waving a cane too, but marketing and branding seems to become much more incessant and insidious for our kids than it ever was for us. Really burns me up the way the characters are rammed down the throats to capitalize on markets…"

Rob O. commented on TykeGeist's blog post 'How Do You Like Your Screen Time?'
"I guess I'm beginning to soften a little around the edges, but I'm still fairly firmly convinced that today's kids are jacked into the digital world - in whatever form - far, far too much. I'm not at all comfortable that most…"

Rob O. commented on Alternadad's blog post 'The Least Of Your Problems'
"I've gotta counter CRJW's movie quote with my own favorite, which certainly also applies to parenting: "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great." - Jimmy…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a husband of 13+ years, Dad to newly-adopted Russian 2yr old boy, avid - make that rabid - music lover, burgeoning coffee junkie, and an old-school PC techie dude who also has delusions of webmastery grandeur.
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
I never cease to be amazed and enthralled by my son's boundless imagination.
What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?
Clothes shopping for my wife with our very rambunctious toddler in tow yesterday turned in a quite an ordeal.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
I'm constantly aggravated by apathetic & lazy Neanderthal Dads who rest comfortably on old male stereotypes to avoid having to get involved or get their hands dirty. This ain't the 50s, you aren't Ward Cleaver, and yes, you CAN do laundry, wash dishes, bandage boo-boos, and be an engaged parent.
Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?
A happy-go-lucky guy! For 12 years, my wife & I were used to being able to do whatever, whenever. Hitting the ground running as a new parent to a 2 year old was a rude awakening, to put it mildly.
What are you nerdy about?
I've been a computer technician and systems analyst for more than 2 decades, yet I only finally got a cell phone and started learning to "text" 2 weeks ago.
Favorite music/books/TV/movies:
Too many to list!! I'm a media junkie! But I do prefer non-fiction books - yeah, old-school, paper-based books.
OPTIONAL: Do you have a sex life?
Barely.
