This Is Your Wallet On Cars

Posted on June 24, 2011 at 5:30pm 15 Comments

Cars has been a major presence in my house for quite some time. For a while it felt like the DVD was on auto-play on my TV and I can’t go five feet without stepping on a Cars toy. Ever since the Bean could sit up by himself, he was obsessed with wheels. So it was only natural that…

Super 8 (a personal, yet spoiler free review)

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 11:30pm 8 Comments

A lot of things ran through my mind as I watched Super 8. The old Amblin logo that kicked off the movie triggered a sensory response in me, as it was meant to do. I thought about my dad and his repeated attempts to bond with me, a kid whom he didn’t completely understand. I wasn’t into sports like he was. I wasn’t really into much of anything for a while. It would be many years before I stopped having panic attacks because of the movies, paving the way for them to become something…

As a movie fan, I believe the best way to see a movie is in the theater.  But that's not always easy, especially for us parents who have to deal with the high cost of tickets, snacks and the even higher cost of babysitters.  And when you get there, some douche-nozzle is usually texting away during the flick.

This is why I wish I lived in Austin.  The Alamo Drafthouse is one of the best places to see a movie in the country.  Partly due to stuff like this:

Fast Five on a Friday

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 3:50pm 2 Comments

I originally didn’t intend to see Fast Five. The fourth one was pretty awful and ruined my appetite for the franchise. But curiously Fast Five started to get decent reviews. And since WonderWife™ had planned on going to sleep very early, having gotten up in the middle of the previous…

Hop Along

Posted on April 3, 2011 at 9:38pm 4 Comments

I wanted to write a review of Hop this weekend. I had it all planned out too. My tickets were bought and my favorite movie companion was by my side. But as we munched our popcorn, the Bean got a little spooked… Continue

"As a longtime Pixar fan and father of a little Pixar fanatic, it feels weird to say it, but lately the company has been letting me down.  Cars had a message and heart.  The message in Cars 2 was too weak and the content too violent. …"

"We saw it today. It was fun! I had pretty low expectations after reading the reviews...maybe that was the key.   The plot twists were a little implausible, but whatever. It reminded me of those spy/jewel thief Disney movies we used to love as…"
