About Me:: Married 40ish mom of 2 boys (currently ages 5 and 7) working in the civil rights field for local government. Semi-crunchy, semi-reformed rocker chick fighting daily to slay my dragons.

What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?: The very fact that they exist - sounds corny and cliché but it is true. I love Pie 1's smile, intelligence and goofy sense of humor. And Pie 2's ferociousness, appetite for life and evil laugh get me every time.

What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?: Nothing really crazy, just when they get way too loud and rambunctious in public.

What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?: All the parenting "experts". There are way too many people spouting off how we are supposed to raise and tend to our kids. It begins to drown out the ability to really tune in to what our own specific child needs.

Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?: You know, that's kind of a hard question to answer. Like any parent, I had more time, freedom and money before I had kids. Of course I had dreams and aspirations but that all seems a bit, oh, empty now. That is not to say that my dreams were or are unimportant and that my entire being is wrapped up in being a parent or that I feel everything I do should be somehow tied to my kids. It's more that...well, actually, it's just that there is more to life now.

I can tell you what I wasn't before I became a parent: an anxiety-ridden freak and mid-level germophobe!!!!

What are you nerdy about?: Spreadsheets.

Favorite music/books/TV/movies:: Love The Shawshank Redemption. My favorite books are the Outlander series. Currently not watching anything on TV but True Blood and Dexter are in my Netflix queue and I hope to get hooked on at least one of them. I also watch American Idol when it's on.

Happy Birthday, Sweetie Pie!!

Pie 1, Sweetie Pie, the original Pie, turns 6 today. Though it's news to no one here, time sure flies. I still remember sitting with him in the nursery at the hospital (he had to stay an extra week because of a strep infection plus he was under the lights) and just staring into his little face, so in awe of him.
