DLBK replied to mcglory13's discussion 'For all the many folks with more than one child...'
"I'm an only child and have always wanted siblings, so I always thought I'd have two kids so they could have each other. Also, I really wanted a daughter and my first is a boy--of course, my second is also a boy. I am not ready to give up…"

DLBK replied to Herasmus B. Dragon's discussion 'This one's for the ladies...'
"I'm in my mid-thirties, but for the past few years I've noticed that I get very moody and easily sad for the week before my period. Even if I don't keep track of my period I'd be able to tell when it's coming due to the mood…"

DLBK replied to rommie's discussion 'Yes, my son plays with dolls.'
"Same here...I love playing with dolls, and my son has no interest at all. He's recently decided that his second favorite color is purple, and I'm having a hard time finding him purple clothes. "

DLBK replied to kommishoner's discussion 'Nighttime Potty Training?'
"My son just turned 4 and he's been free of night-time diapers for 4 months. We went on a vacation last November and realized that he stayed dry for the entire week, despite not doing so at home. At Christmas time we told him that there would be…"

DLBK replied to Mommy Monster's discussion 'So...the recent war on women's health...I have a question'
"Interesting topic and interesting replies. I also support a woman's right to end a pregnancy at any gestational age and for any reason. I have to admit that I'd be very uncomfortable with someone ending a healthy, viable pregnancy in the…"

DLBK replied to bap2's discussion 'The "What's Wrong with My Kid" Puzzle'
"I agree with everyone else. Switch schools, especially after the doctor implied you should. The teachers and environment don't sound great at all and you don't owe them anything. Their evaluations sound (at least in part) ridiculous. Of…"

DLBK commented on guinnessgoddess's blog post 'Women please advise: tmi menstrual stuff'
"Sorry you're going through this. I don't have much advice; when I tried birth control pills the side effects drove me crazy--no sex drive at all and lots of spotting (after the initial 3 months of constant bleeding). The doctor just…"

DLBK replied to ruth's discussion 'Friends with Benefits and Gender Politics'
"She's definitely referring to oxytocin. It's released by both men and women after orgasm. Mila Kunis isn't an expert on oxytocin. She's talking non-sense."

DLBK replied to DreamCatcher's discussion 'Talking To The Doctor (Again!) Help!'
"I understand that being told you can't have kids the natural way is heartbreaking, but try not to despair. I know so many people who have had IVF with good results--me included! While IVF is no walk in the park, it's also not terrible and…"

DLBK commented on rommie's blog post 'Finding healing'
"I sort of know where you're coming from. While I didn't have panic attacks, I would end up crying for half of my 45 min commute home a few times a month after my early miscarriage in 2010. I had gotten pregnant easily with my son and the…"

DLBK replied to Daddy Geek Boy's discussion 'Gender'

Profile Information

About Me:
I have a son born in March 2008. I've been married for almost 7 years to a great guy. We never knew that parenthood would be so great and yet so much work.
I work part time as a postdoctoral fellow doing research in biomedical science.
What's something about your kid(s) that makes you happy?
I love his smiles and laughs and at his age all the new stuff he's always learning.
What's your most recent kid-related public humiliation?
He's pretty young, so I don't know that I've had a lot of humiliation.
What about contemporary parenting culture pisses you off the most?
Sexism. I hate how boys are encouraged to play with trucks while girls are given dolls. My son has both.
I also despise how girls are always encouraged to wear pink and play with pink building blocks, pink stuffed animals, pink everything.
I have nothing against the color pink, but it's very boring after a while. A lot of boy stuff is blue, but it's not nearly as bad.
Who were you BEFORE you became a parent?
I was a wife, friend, and full time scientist. Not that different from now.
What are you nerdy about?
Reading and sleeping (what parent doesn't want more sleep?!).
Favorite music/books/TV/movies:
Music--Pink Floyd.
Books--a lot of non-fiction lately.

I dislike movies because I have no understanding of them and haven't watched much TV at all since my son was born last year.
OPTIONAL: Do you have a sex life?
Yes.
