This is a topic I bring up every once in a while...  I get so sick of the music that I'm playing for my kids.  The Barenaked Ladies or Yo Gabba Gabba albums lose their luster after the first 100 listens.  As does Life Is a Highway (cause you know, they feature it in "Cars").  And it's hard to navigate my iTunes collection, which is littered with hip hop or Ben Folds (who seems to drop a F bomb in just about every one of his songs).

So...what songs are your kids listening to these days?

At the risk of losing street cred - KC and the Sunshine Band "Shake Your Booty" complete with dance moves.

To balance that out we listen to a lot of TMBG and Ramones that El D also likes...
Every time The H hears the I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas he starts dancing. Maybe I should play him some more hip hop. He also dances to the the theme song of The Office.
My kids are getting old, they have a mind of their own. Ri likes most anything from Lady GaGa and Ro likes I'm a be. And they officially control the radio now - it's easier than getting yelled at from the back seat for listening to sucky old people music.
I also forgot to mention that sports theme songs are also a big hit. If I play "Bear Down, Chicago Bears", he rushes off to his room to get his Bears flags.

And according to my husband, he also loves Black Eyed Peas.
Johnathan Coulton. All I want to do is eat your brains. Don't be so unreasonable! No one's going to eat your eyes...

They also seem to be grooving with the Tank Girl Soundtrack, and I made a mix CD of Abba, the Beatles and Queen. I also highly recommend downloading some of Bill Cosby's early standup and letting the kids listen. My girls can now talk about "The Belt".

Speaking of the Buffy theme, what else has that group done? Weren't they Scruffy Nerfherders or something like that?

And for TommysMommy, go back and read that book in a creepy come hither voice. Totally changes the book! Hilarious, yet not :P I want to be your... PERSONAL penguin.
It seems we're turning our kids into a Queen army.
His absolute favorite is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. We listen to the Beatles almost every day.

I also play him Pink Floyd, Julio Iglesias, and Queen while he sleeps--he sleeps with music from my iTunes collection to cover up any noise we might be making around our small house.
I love Johnathan Coulton and have several of his songs on my playlists. Max has been listening to them with me in the car. A while back he was with Sailor at the Wawa and he said he wanted french fries. Sailor said something about a compromise and Max lit up saying "Just like the Zombie Song!"

"We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise
If you open up the door
We'll all come inside and eat your brains"

Lately, anything by They Might Be Giants, School House Rock, star wars, and the theme songs from every single cartoon in the universe.
I can't believe it, but I forgot to add:
The Ramones, Joan Jett, Blondie, Arrogant Worms and Heart. I'm trying to find more Bif Naked, and they like Pink's Evil Clown song. Fun House?
Yeah, one of those groups is not like the other.
My 2yo is still heavy into Imagination Movers. But he's my musical kid, he loves to dance and sing to just about anything with a good beat: Classic rock, funk, reggae, pop, oldies, doesn't matter. He also loves to "play" the various musical instruments we have around the house: piano, guitar, ukulele, drums, harmonica, etc.

I want to get him this:

My 5yo, on the other hand, wants the Alvin and the Chipmunks soundtrack. *help me*
I set up a Pandora station of kids' music for them. Today they gave "thumbs up" to "Nine Bowls of Soup" by They Might Be Giants, "Sharing Song" by Jack Johnson, "Get Up" by Imagination Movers, "Freddy Bear the Teddy Bear" by Ralph's World, and . . . (siiigh) . . . the Chipmunks' version of "Funkytown."

Little Girl is also quite fond of Throwing Muses' "Dizzy," much to my delight...
