Offsprung

An irreverent, inclusive, alternative parenting community

Not in terms of a moderation policy, but just out of general curiousity: What puts the "TM" in "TMI" for you? Big serious fights we've had with our partners? Menstruation? Non-traditional sex? Any version of sex? Flirtation? Details about past rape or abuse? Childbirth? Other bodily functions?

Is sexual content more offensive when it's earnest? Or is it more offensive when it's a joke?

I know I publicly criticized the "teaching your 4-year-old" satirical post last week, and I will never be a big fan of that post, but typically masturbation is nowhere near my line. (If you don't believe me, then you probably didn't see my Mothers Day blog post. Which might squick you. Proceed with caution.)

When I really examined it, I could see some reasons why one masturbation post offended me and another one didn't. But the points are so fine, there's no way a writer could or should be expected to discern them. I think it's just about impossible to define "offensive" in terms of a moderation policy. But I still think it's worth examining which topics are disturbing to us and why.

Now its time for me to go to bed with images of goats trying to give blowjobs without spearing each other with darling little horns on their heads...

damn, I've missed this crowd.

I don't get squicked out very easily at all. While I do have a line but you have to travel pretty damn far to cross it.
Ditto

I have a remarkably high squick threshold. As long as the subject in question isn't advocating something particularly unsavory, I can read most anything. I can watch anything not involving puking and/or veins. However, I get really uncomfortable with all things mushy.
I am with Kiwi.

I love you JM. We've missed you. Cocktail party Thursday night 9PM EST!

As for my squicky-ness I'm similar to Kiwi it takes a lot but I have a line. Although mamwho has 1 story inparticular that maskes shudder/cringe/squick out every time I hear it (as MW mentioned in another thread) .

in the abstract - as long as it involves fully informed consent I really don't care...that let's beastiality out since Bessie the Cow doesn't get a vote; and anything that involves kids being used for the sexual gratification of adults (even without direct physical contact with the kid) is over the line although I'm not at all squicked out by a conversation or debate about teaching kids about sex

in the specific - anything that results in me picturing my family or friends doing the dirty in any form usually qualifies as TMI, even if it doesn't phase me at all personally or in the abstract.

example: blowjobs
in abstract - the more the merrier for all concerned
personally - the more the merrier for all concerned
hearing my best friend talk about the schlong she tackled last week - bleh
cocktail party ... I'm in! Its been far too long!
Ahh, if only this was what goatse really was.

Oh god. I googled it. Why did I google it? WHY?

(FTR, that didn't actually squick me out very much)

What's great is that I first learned about it right here on Offsprung. Thanks, Gladstone!
