Those of you with older kids, how did you realize that you have crossed the threshold into parenting an older child?

Just now The Miniature looked around the living room then dug around in the kitchen and I didn't even ask what he was up to. He pawed through a few drawers, poked around in random corners and cupboards, then walked out with a roll of tape. He informed me, "I was just looking for this." Then ran to the family room with it.

I thought, cool! You didn't nag me to find it for you. Wait, what's he using it for? Nah, I don't care. I'm sure it's fine. He's not going to hurt himself with it and the cats are both accounted for.

I think it hit me when Big O (8 y.o.) was outside playing with friends, and I didn't feel the need to sit at the window. She's a good girl who handles herself very well. I'm looking forward to her being older.
Mojo (he'll be 8 in August, where does the time go?) recently started reading by himself before bed. He snuggles down with Percy Jackson instead of me. I'm a little bit sad and a whole lotta proud. He still drops when I'm reading to his brothers but for the most part he likes having that bit of time to himself after we say goodnight. *sniff. I'm going to go watch him sleep now.
DaddyWho and I were talking about going to the movies, and having just moved into town, wondered aloud where the theater was. GirlWho piped up "in Kingstowne, near Kohl's." We just looked at her, goggle eyed. I realized then that she had a life separate from us. Oh, and she was totally right about where the theater was.
