Shooting pain from my shoulder, up my neck, culminating in an unbelievable blast of pure blinding pain at the back/left of my head -- and right at the worst possible time. Paingasm. Happened Friday and again last night.

So, what now? Was it muscle pain? Or some kind of scary impending death-by-sex pain? I'm guessing the former, but I still don't like it. Is this going to get better, or is it like that Louis C.K. routine -- "No, you just do that now."

Stupid aging. Anybody else dealt with something like this?

I think you need to conduct a rigourous survey of wether or not position affects the result. That would be supremely freaky to experience though.
I would suspect tight muscles in the neck. there are some very small muscles there that can cause very significant pain. As Wookie suggested positioning might help. Alternating heat and cold will promote healing. If you can talk someone into giving you a massage would also help.

My son is very prone to migraines which are often triggered by neck subluxations around C4 and tight muscles.
I'd say it's a pinched nerve with associated muscle pain. You need a massage, and/or a chiropractic adjustment. Is it just one side of your neck or the whole thing?

I had a similar problem once...only it was not in my neck, it was actually in the uh...target zone. But it was definitely positionally related, so when I went in and got my lower back adjusted, no more pain! That was awesome.
These are good suggestions. Much better than that Victoria's Secret neck brace I was going to look for...

For my current neck pain, those are only part of the picture. I'm also combining them with physical therapy exercises to build up strength throughout the back and the core and to have the neck quit doing so much work throughout the day. But, obviously, I don't know anything about neck pain other than my own experience.

I am, however, fascinated by the timing of FB's experience and it makes me grateful that mine hasn't flared up at such a moment. I can actually see it happening, given my reaction to various strength training exercises.

Muscle spasms can be triggered by orgasm. So if you've got something going on in the neck/shoulder dept., it could flare up in that case.

Sex has been a pain-filled endeavor for me for a few years now, and it sucks. I hope your problem gets resolved quickly.

Hey, didn't you hurt your neck or back at the THBG concert? Could be related.
The life of a repo man is always intense.

I've found that lobotomies can be good. Friend of mine had one. Designer of the neutron bomb. You ever hear of the neutron bomb? Destroys people but leaves buildings standing. Fits in a suitcase, it's so small. No one knows it's there until - BLAMMO! Eyes melt, skin explodes, everybody's dead. It's so immoral, working on the thing can drive you mad. That's what happened to this friend of mine. So he had a lobotomy. Now he's well again.
Wait, you had sex Friday and again yesterday? Man, I'm jealous. And sorry about your back. Can't help there. I'm not even sure I'd know if it was happening to me.
I sometimes get horrible cramps in my right hip, just at crucial moments. But it is also positionally related for me. Unfortunately, it is (or used to be, anyway, before the pain started) my particular favorite position and I had to mostly give it up.

People in Seattle have more sex than most other cities. I read it in the paper, so it must be a fact.

FP, sorry to hear about the pain, I'd go in to see a doctor to rule out anything neurological but a trip to the chiropractor might be enough.

I hadn't heard that, Jenra. Is it because it's so rainy we can't be bothered to get out of bed? Or is it all the coffee?
