I am beginning to wonder if I am in the beginning of early menopause.  I'll be talking with my doctor about getting hormone levels checked.  Has anyone else gone through this?  I know the crowd here is a relatively young bunch.

I have been incredibly stressed for quite a while now, with frustrations at work, money worries, sleep problems and other issues related to Ebay's therapies, etc.  A few months ago I had to stock up on KY because of, well, the reason that KY was made.  I'm still having sleeping problems, despite Ebay finally falling asleep quickly and no longer coming into our bed.  I've begun to develop extreme bouts of irratability, even more than the normal "Hubby did something stupid so I'm pissed at him and OMG why won't the girls listen to me?!?"  Yesterday I completely overreacted over a steak rub.  Hubby says I had a look of utter hate on my face, which is not at ALL what I really felt.  I have been thinking about this nonstop since last night, and this morning as I used the word "irratability" to myself, the conversation I had with Hubby several weeks ago about seeing my doctor about the dryness slammed home.  Holy crap, it's all related!  I would NEVER have reacted like that a year ago.

So I'll be meeting with my doctor.  I have no idea if I'm imagining things, if this is somehow related to the Mirena IUD I have which is due for replacing this fall, if it's really just stress taking over and I need a therapist myself, if I need antidepressants, etc, etc, etc.  I'd just like to know if anyone else has ever had symptoms like this, before the typical age of onset.

You might just as well as called this, "Please read this Diggy".

But sorry about your issues. Maybe it's just stress related. And have you talked to your mother to see if she had issues with The Change coming early?

Meeting with the doctor sounds good. I'm not near this part of life, nor that kind of doctor, but I know there are a lot of biological changes (thyroid being off is another common body-mood link)  that can influence mood and it's worth seeing if there's a medical explanation.

I haven't had any mood issues related to the Mirena, but we're all different. :)

I definitely think seeing the doctor is a good idea.  I'm not near that part of life yet either, and if my family history is anything to go by, even though I'm in my mid-30s now, I've got a good 20 years or more before I have to deal with it.

But hormones can definitely affect the mood and stress can also do crazy things to your mood and to your body, so it is worth getting checked out.  Good luck hon.

Doctor visit is definitely warranted. I actually went through this when Miss A was around a year old. For some reason, I just quit producing estrogen. That's when I first started on vitex, actually, and I've been on it ever since. If your Mirena is due for replacement soon, then there may be an issue with that is just cropping up early due to your stress levels.

I'm in my mid-thirties, but for the past few years I've noticed that I get very moody and easily sad for the week before my period. Even if I don't keep track of my period I'd be able to tell when it's coming due to the mood swings. My hormone levels are OK enough since I just had a baby two months ago (so no early menopause).

I think it's highly improbable that it's menopause.  However, I agree with getting a panel done to make sure everything is in the proper range (my first thought, too, was thyroid).  I think you're highly stressed (HIGHLY) and probably not getting enough sleep.  Exercise helps regulate moods and if nothing else is a great stress reliever.  In your spare time.  Seriously, though, I manage to make time to exercise and I'm a much happier person when I do and my family is happier.  About a year ago I started getting hard core PMS-something I haven't dealt with since way before kids.  Doesn't the Mirena have hormones in it?  If you're due for a new one, maybe you're off because the hormones have faded.

I'm 45 and have many of the same symptoms (including occasional bona fide hot flashes) and I insisted my doctor run blood work and she said it DOESN'T indicate perimenopause yet, and I'm actually in the age range for it.  I agree with LG that stress and sleep make a huge difference in all of the areas you mentioned.  And your stress levels are VERY high.  I also have found that when I go months/years with fucked up sleep, it takes a very long time for my body and brain to get used to the idea that I can actually, you know, sleep again.

It still makes sense to get blood work done. Could be blood sugar levels, other hormones, etc. A thyroid panel and some other basics certainly seem warranted.

So, can't measure female hormone levels as long as the Mirena's in place, but she is checking the thyroid. Her main thought is that many of these symptoms are the result of terrible sleep. Even though Ebay's staying in her own bed now, I'm still not getting to the "good sleep" in the fourth stage. I have a sleep study on Sunday.

The weird thing is, this diagnosis completely surprised me. The thing about hoofbeats, zebras, & horses.

There may very well be some imbalances in the brain and pituitary, but the lady issues could be something as simple as being too tired to get it up, so to speak, despite being mentally interested. I'l have the results of the thyroid panel by Friday.

Glad you're getting some answers. :) Thanks for letting us play "House" and diagnose you. :)
