Plus we were mentioned in Playboy! Yay!

I for one am extremely happy that he made this place. With some attention it could probably grow again.

Interesting... but I'm more thinking... Thank you, Alan and Kathy.  Whatever was going on with Neal, I am glad I found this place and that you took it off his hands.

I love this piece. And now I am having a Neal Pollack-like thought - there is totally a book in that essay. What resonated for me was the tension which occurs when the created and authentic, biological selves encounter one another - and how this isn't just a famous-person thing, but a routine event now that everyone who types anything online is effectively a published author. Neal just does it in a funny, over-the-top way, like he does everything else, but it's a very common phenomenon.

Also, while it's nice when there's more activity on the site here, I don't miss all the fighting on the old OS.

Darn it. I posted this first. :P

Yep, I agree with what others said. It's not as active, but at least I don't constantly have that XKCD experience ("I can't go to bed, somebody is being WRONG on the internet!").

Now I'll go delete my post.

OS appeared at a very timely moment in my life. I'm not sure I would have survived the first year of our move to Texas without it!

Dude, literally, since the hurricane took all your power away and Texas is hot. :)

I'm glad to have OS.  I don't make friends well in real life, but you guys make great imaginary friends.  :)

mcg - no kidding - it was like the OS version of the Twilight Bark!

I found OS through Hubby, who found it through Pajiba during OS's second week.  I came for the bloggers, but stayed for the friends.

And I thank whatever higher power you believe in for all the support you gave me during the NICU phase.

OS came to me at a key time and I really believe it kept me from tipping over an edge that I don't even like to think about looking over. I know I owe Neal a debt for starting the site, but I'm not really surprised that he had know idea what was happening on the playground and how important it was to so many of us.

Here here and agreed. Unintended consequences can be awesome.

I must have heard about the site from that article he referenced.  The time frame is about right.  I bookmarked it but didn't start visiting regularly until some months later.  I'm really glad I found you guys too.  You all have definitely kept me more sane than I would have been otherwise.  Especially now when almost all of my real life friends have pretty much abandoned me and I feel pretty sad and lonely most of the time.  At least I can go on FB and "see" all you!

And many many thanks to Alan and Kathy for keeping this site up.  :D  You guys rock.
