So, earlier tonight on the OS chat, I see folks were discussing why the heck there is so much damn Pie on this site (I missed the conversation). I know we talked about our screen names not too long ago on the old site (which, I believe, is when "The Oracle" was born), but since we're here now and there are lots of new folks, how 'bout we all recap why we chose our particular names. That includes you newbies. :)

My pie comes from my boys. We call them cutie pie and sweetie pie, pie 1 and pie 2, p1 and p2, etc. When I joined OS it was what came to mind and viola! Piebrothersmomma (aka PBM) was born. A while ago I decided to put actual pie on my avatar, just for fun.

Ylime is Emily backwards. Ylimemagic was spawned when I couldn't think up anything creative for an email on Hotmail back in the '90's. I didn't want to be emily65574@hotmail.com, so ylimemagic it was. It stuck.
My original nickname was also pie-related, although if was the other kind: pi. 1five9 is from 3.14159. But in a chat one night I decided it was just too complicated. I have used Daria or some variation of it on the internet occasionally, so I just switched it. I wouldn't mind changing it again, but I can't think of anything else I like. I would really like a nickname for the Hubby and the Son, but I can't think of one there either.

I am so not creative.
RE: Gears of War
If you are in any way responsible for Gears of War, I'm pretty sure my husband wants to dry hump your leg.

RE: Octopon
Are you, per chance, related to Prince Ren?

:)

Mine stems from two ideas.

First is more philosophical. A Cog is part of a gear that is a part of a larger machine. One could look at people in the big machine of life as cogs on a wheel. There are many, and without them, the machine could not function properly.

Second is more related to my work. I worked on the video games Gears of War and Gears of War 2. They are my favorite shooters, and in the game, the soldiers are known as "gears", and the military is known as "The Cog". Rather than call myself Gear, or one of the characters in the game, I went with the slightly more obscure Cog.

My Xbox Live name is Octopon, which I almost went with here. 10 bucks to whoever knows where that name came from. I didn't make it up.
In part because I am Mama to a Max and in part because I came of age in the 90s and everything awesome was to tha Max! So I'm Mama to tha Max!

Sailor is my husband and his name on here (when he finally sits down and signs up) will be Sailor to tha Mama. He's a sailor.
I am a fount of useless information. (Remind me to tell you some time about how I won some of Ben Stein's money.)

But, for this time, I have to admit that I had to cheat just a teensy bit. The name rang a bell, but I had to Google Pirates of Dark Water to be sure. :)

Very cool job, btw. Looks like you've worked on some really fun projects!

Zenmom, I did the dialogue editing for both Gears of War games. When I started working on it, I had no idea how huge it was going to be. Then someone from Epic Games showed us some gameplay footage, and I was blown away. I don't work at that company any more, so sadly I won't get to work on any more Gears games. The voice actors were really fun to work with. I've been seeing the trailer for Mass Effect 2, and a small tear comes to my eye. I did the dialogue editing on the the first one, and it was awesome to work on. That thing had over 40,000 lines of dialogue. It took seven months of straight recording and editing to finish. Gears took about 2 months.

Good catch on the Octopon name. You are the first person in several years to get it, although Octopon isn't actually a person. It's the name of the island Prince Ren is from. Ren's father has the same name as one of my favorite bands, Primus. Pirates of Dark Water is one of my all time favorite animated shows. Unfortunately it was canceled before they found all 13 treasures.

Oh. Um. There's not much more to it, actually. :) I was a contestant in the last season of Win Ben Stein's Money. It was a LOT of fun.

I was up against a smarty pants scientist (physicist? biologist? Can't remember now.) and a sweet but geeky USC film student. Yeah, I kicked both their butts. ;) So I ended up in a booth man-a-mano against Ben in the Best of Ten Test of Knowledge. I got 5 answers right to Ben's 7 and so only left with several hundreds of Ben's dollars, instead of several thousand.

The part that killed me was that there were two questions I should have gotten right. But that clock ticking in your ear can really eff with your concentration. ;) To this day, my husband still teases me about one of the ones that I knew, but missed. (Seven letter Spanish word for a dry gully or creekbed. Anyone? Anyone? You only have 10 seconds!) :)

So, yeah. That's my 30 minutes of fame. Yes. I have the video. No. You can't see it. ;P

Dude. Don't you still owe me $10? ;P

My husband and I had a side bet on whether or not I would end up with the dunce cap (I didn't!) because I am such a Jeopardy! geek. :)

You have to post the video. I will hound you every day until you post it. I must see this video. I loved that show when it was on. I liked it when someone would answer like they were on jeopardy, and they would put a dunce cap on the person.
I would say arroyo, but that's only 6.

Whoops. You're right. It's arroyo. My bad. Six letters. :)

Woo Hoo!! I funded my drinking habit in my early 20s by winning at trivia in bars.

I am Lea. I was tired of going behind a moniker, so I go by my real name.

And my avatar is a detail form one of my paintings.

I saw you guys were talking about game shows? I loved "Win Ben Steins money"! I did a game show about 8 years ago called "Sex Wars", it was fun. And us women won :)
