What are you all up to this summer?

I'm more excited about summer this year than I've been years. Maybe ever. I guess it's because the Dragon's in regular school now, not year-round daycare, so this year summer actually means something different than the normal routine.

I enrolled him in a few nature and zoo camps -- just 2-3 days each, 3-4 hours per day, so not too intense. I found out our new hometown has a bunch of "spraygrounds" so we don't have to shell out money for running through the sprinkler. Whew. I'm also just looking forward to exploring all the parks and trails and taking ferry boat rides and stuff.

And for those inevitable rainy days, we bought a $25 summer pass for all-you-can-bowl (kids' lanes -- with bumpers -- so much fun) and we're also hatching plans to paint murals over the dreadful paneling in our basement. The Dragon has also stated his intent to build a robot that will fly him to school. I'm really looking forward to not having to drive him every day in the fall.

As I continue to slowly wean Ducky, I'm planning to increase my intake of margaritas. AND I'm hoping to get together with some of you folks in person! Maybe we should do an OS barbecue somewhere around the dog days.

I don't know when I'm going to find time to work!

We are having construction done on our house, so I'm planning to take the kid out of town for two to three weeks. But I'm trying to guess as to what would be best emotionally for him. Do stay in one place (with my parents out of town)? How long should he go without seeing his dad? Is a roadtrip a terrible idea? Or do we pay outrageous rates to fly?

I like the roadtrip idea in that it's what I would do if I was on my own. I was thinking of doing it in 3-hour per day increments--that wouldn't be too much torture for a two-year-old would it? Perhaps I could time it with naps? Unfortunately, the roadtrip will not go past the Rockies, so we wouldn't make the OS BBQ.

On the upside, a sweet couple from church has offered us their house for 10 days, so that definitely helps and it sounds kind of fun to stay in town, but in a different neighborhood.
Sigh. This is making me sad about my summer. We're moving and then I'm going back to work. Somewhere in there I need to write up three conference papers before I am supposed to deliver them, and get the syllabi in order for the fall. The margaritas sound good though. :)
We're still trying to recover from the move/construction/debt the electrician left us. But before we knew he was going to cost us $8K over budget (for very good reasons but CRAP! none the less), I had bought the kids and me tickets home so we can go out to the cottage for just over 2 weeks. We'll be there mid-July through the August long weekend (first weekend in Aug for us) and then back home. By that time, they should have worked out the kinks of the splash park they are currently installing in the park at the end of our block. Like, 3 houses away. We're very excited. Himself loved the one in the park by our old house and I was not looking forward to having to pack us all up to drive over there.

Other than that, we'll probably make a few trips over to Vancouver Island to see the in-laws and cousins. But not much else. On the up side, no weddings this summer! Yay! All friends are married and selfishly I hope they will start producing kids soon.
It probably doesn't help, but I'm also a little sad thinking about this summer. It seems much too short. I had a year off from work and I felt like the only thing I did was pack, move and unpack. Then, I'm going to pack again for the kitchen remodel. And our new kitchen is going to be done just in time for me to go back to work, so I won't get to enjoy it. Alas.

We'll be renting a house for a week at the beach in RI with three other families with small kids. We'll have 8 adults and 5 2-year olds in the house. Wish us luck!
Triathlons, bike riding, and beer. Also, getting my law practice to turn a profit. That'd be nice.
At least the number of adults outweighs the number of 2 year olds!

Sounds like a great time.

Oh, I have a shitload of work to do, too. I'm just trying not to think about it right now. Margaritas will make everything better.

Well, it just seems weird that I have no time off, given how little I make. :) The plus side to not having a "real job" should be the school schedule, right? But no.
You guys need to come to the East Coast.

Big O is going to a 6 week summer camp offered through the county's parks department. She did it last year and loved it, and we loved that they charge on an income-based sliding scale. Hubby's going to write, I'm hopefully going to be working and if not, fixing things around the house. Ebay's in daycare, where she thrives, though I think Hubby will take the girls on occassional museum trips as he gets the urge.

Also, my brother's now living with us with his black lab/pitbull mix, so the girls are all about the walks. It's actually nice to have another living being for Elena to climb all over instead of me, which is why I'm able to sit here during the daylight and write on the computer. Onyx! Onyx! Onyx! Onyx!
Umm well I'm getting married this Saturday to kick off my summer. Then two weeks later we're moving from the 'burbs to inside the city.

Before the boy returns to school we'll likely take a trip or two to SeaWorld, go to New Braunfels and hit the river, and possibly head to DFW.
Yay! Congratulations! Post a picture or two!
