Despite my bitching about my MIL being here for so long, I do love her and a have a good relationship with her.  I just don't want anyone staying in my home for so long.

So, yesterday, we threw a BBQ.  We got up at 4:00 am to put the pork butt on the smoker (needed to cook for 12+ hours).  We cleaned and prepped and cooked all day.  Right before guests start arriving my MIL starts having pains in her ankle/leg.  Some numbness and generally feeling bad.  She looked horrible, I was really worried.  She hung out in her room for a while and we kept checking on her.  She finally called her on-call doc and he said "get thee to emergency" where they diagnosed a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in her femoral artery.  Yikes!  She ended up with emergency surgery last night at about midnight.  She'll be in the hospital for 3-4 days, and I have no clue after that.  Her prognosis is good, though.

So, I feel like a putz.  But not too much, because 3 weeks is still too long.

AND I just realized that I should have posted this on the blogs section, but with something like 4 hours noncontiguous sleep in the last 2 days, I hope you all can forgive me.

*hugs* hon and I hope she has a quick recovery.

But 3 weeks is too long for a visit, so don't feel too guilty about that.

Perspective with a wallop! Wow. I hope she has a complication-free recovery.

ks is right though - this shouldn't invalidate your feelings.  As an introvert, being around a lot of people for too long is just mentally exhausting

I'm glad she's ok! And yes, three weeks is still too long. :)

Ugh wow! Hope she's on the mend...does she have to recover at your place too? (I'm assuming yes)

Totally rough. My ex-FIL would stay a month sometimes TWO when visiting from SA -- WAY too long. I feel you. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

Yikes!

Glad she is responding well...hope she can go home to recover!  :)

Having been there, I'm IMMENSELY glad this was caught in time. It's a *good* thing she was around loving family who could help her.

Glad to know she is ok.  Now for the really important question: What happened to the BBQ?  Did your guests carry on without you?

She's doing pretty well, but it's going to be a while before she's feeling her normal self again.  She's at the stage where a trip to the bathroom, about 8 steps away, is exhausting.  She was scheduled to fly home tomorrow and that ain't happening.  I don't think she'll be released until Thursday or Friday and then I'm guessing she'll be at 0ur house to recover some more before trying to make the trip home.

Her boyfriend is arriving today (at midnight) from California.

And I stayed and solo-hosted the BBQ.  We had fun, although it was shadowed fun.  And we have TONS of leftovers.  Anyone want to come over and help us eat?
