OK, so I thought I was crazy for always being hungry recently.  But recently, I purchased Mark Bittman's Food Matters cookbook and the first section is all about snacks and it opens with "When you eat more plant foods and fewer animal products, you're probably going to eat more often--so snacking takes on increased importance."  He's got some ideas in there, but i'm happy to have more ideas.  But my snacks tend to be carb-heavy and low in veggies.  I'm sure I've asked the question before, what are your favorite snacks?

And related, how about favorite smoothie recipes?

We've been eating tons of sugar snap peas lately. Yummy.
I eat Trader Joe's almond butter with flax seed by the spoon ful. I also love Chobani greek yogurt with the fruit flavors, it seems more satisfying to me than regular yogurt, which doens't do much for me. I tend towards the carbs, too (pop tarts!!), but I'm trying to get better.
We have lots of TJ's mini almond packs for snacks, and some of their fun and funky dried fruit like spicy mango. My husband loves a slice of whole wheat bread spread with Nutella and wrapped around a banana. Rowan loves bananas and grapes. If I am hungry I tend to eat a meal, but I have yogurt and cottage cheese as options, we also have cheese sticks (string cheese, colby, cheddar), laughing cow light cheese, and sugar snap peas. I also love cantaloupe and Asian pears.

I just made some apple sauce with Gala apples that we got at a harvest fest. Peel, core and dice about 6 apples and through in a microwave safe bowl with a lid. Add 1/4 c water, 2 tsp sugar and 1/4 - 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. Microwave on high for 8-10 minutes and mash with a fork or potato masher. It tastes super yummy still warm out of the (microwave) oven.

Quick & Healthy Recipes and Ideas by Brenda J. Ponichtera recommends:
air popped popcorn
pretzels (unsalted)
rice cakes with low sugar jam
fresh fruit
herbal tea
nonfat yogurt
raw vegetables
tomato juice (unsalted)
sugar-free hot cocoa
vanilla wafers, ginger snaps, graham crackers, fig bars, unsalted top saltine crackers, RyKrisp (unseasoned), ak-mak crackers, Bremner wafers, melba toast
sugar free flavored seltzer water
we like raw carrots and celery with ranch or hummus or peanut butter. We also like apples and pb, or more recently I made this spread by mixing cream cheese, pumpkin puree', a little sugar and cinnamon. We've been eating it with everything: on bagels, on toast, as an apple dip it's especially delicious! We eat cucumbers and pepper slices with italian dressing, bananas, grapes, raisins..... we're pretty well rounded in the snack area. I wish we did more of the fruit/veggie variety though than the popcorn, chip, pretzel stuff. Although, popcorn is a great snack! I just buy the bag of it and pop it on the stove. It's way cheaper and goes A LOT further than microwave popcorn. Then you can season it however you like. A little parm and garlic salt makes an awesome popcorn!
