The Achiever has a bad cough, a side effect from his recent upper respiratory infection. He's on antibiotics, but this cough is bad enough to trigger some vomiting.
So, any advice on actual otc cough meds for kids? This is new for us, usually some tea with honey and a good dose of the humidifier does the trick. Don't think that's going to cut it tonight.

Didn't hurt, and it seemed like it helped a little. Elevating the head of the bed by a couple of inches also helped not get quite as much of that gunky accumulation at the back of the throat that made them hurl.
And don't feed him food that stains for a bit. Spagetti is EEEEEEVVIL.

Permalink Reply by Floor Pie on February 24, 2011 at 7:33pm Oh, that brings back fond memories. I second the humidifier and elevating. If it's not too freezing cold out, we crack the window. Works wonders.
For cough medicine, we use children's grape-flavored Delsym. Hang in there!
Ebay's been going through the same thing the past several days. Thankfully it only happens at home (she'd be sent home from daycare), but at least 3 times each morning and evening. Gross, but she's a trooper.
Unfortunately, you can no longer give cough medicine to kids under 6. I give her Mucinex for kids because her doc said 3 1/2 is OK. You can give a spoonful of honey, which coats the throat and is also a natural anti-viral (even though I know you said his was bacterial). Plus the sweetness soothes the kiddo.
I'm with you that I hope it passes soon. And yes, no spaghetti or grape juice. Or milk. Oooh, those curdles are the nastiest to clean up.
