hey, everybody.  i've been away from the internets because the baby! got born.  8 pounds, 12 oz, by c-section after a long day of useless contractions.  my planned midwifey granola birth experience turned out to be a cosmic joke--there was meconium, and everything got very medical pretty early on--but we're all healthy and home and fine.  breastfeeding has been challenging, but other than that we're managing quite well.

and he's *beautiful.*

i know i haven't been around here long, but everyone was so kind during the pregnancy; i wanted you to know that he finally showed up.  huzzah!

thanks for the words on the shields. we're still trying to figure ourselves out, but it's nice to hear that they're not tools of the devil, like some of the breastfeeding books intimate.

he just pooped, audibly. gotta go.
Ahh, the Sploosh. The only thing that could ever be both adorably cute and utterly disgusting at the same time. But at least you know breastfeeding is working!

Don't worry about what the books say. You do what you gotta do to survive. Don't compare yourself or your son to anyone else, just keep him warm, clean, fed, and happy in any way that works.

Congratulations!

And I never used shields but I'm firmly in the "whatever gets you through" camp and the "stay off the internets -except Offsprung and a few other places not inhabited by scarefreakmoms" and also the "no one is living your life but you so whatever you do to survive is cool" camp.

Wooo hooooo!
Congratulations!

I was given a nipple shield to use with Moose, though in my case it was more because that was quicker than actually taking time to help me latch him on right. That's probably part of why I was so angry about it. Like others said, I found it a pain to drag around, keep clean, etc., and it made Moose eat so slowly that I went half crazy. A friend of my mom's finally helped me out at 5 weeks, and he did great after that. It cut back his feeding times from me stopping him at an hour to him finishing after ten minutes or so and took a lot of stress off me.

BUT. Do whatever works for you! I just rant because it sticks out in my mind as a particularly depressing (for me) part of the hell that was Moose's first two months. And again, congrats. I'm so happy for you!
Congratulations!
Hooray! Welcome little one!
