Poor The Boy...we're all set up to have the 3rd nip removed from his armpit on Tuesday (really!), and now I discover that his permanent teeth are growing in right behind his baby teeth, which aren't even the tiniest bit loose.

None of this is as bad as my own mutant childhood of course. I was born with a 3rd non-functioning kidney that had to be surgically removed. Really.

What sort of anomalies have you encountered lately?

None, but you do force me to share that I saw five kids biking down Beaver Street this morning led by a boy in a cape and what appeared to be a construction paper Magneto helmet. To me, my mutant brethren!

Also, I have an extra tooth that they quit pulling the second time it grew back. Don't sweat it, the Boy. I have gone on to live a semi-normal life.
Hubby's wisdom teeth grew in without anyone noticing (yeah, he's got a big mouth). When he goes to a new dentist, they all crowd around to study his full set for a moment before he gets his cleaning. Also, my MIL was born with no appendix and an extra lumbar vertebra.

Good luck with his surgery!
FREAK!

Oh...sorry.

I can only offer good news about the teeth thing - #2 had two adult teeth come in before the baby teeth were ready to come out and they grew out through his gums above the baby teeth. He looked pretty freakish for quite awhile. The baby teeth eventually had to be pulled (hellish nightmare...don't recommend it) and now the adult teeth are actually moving into place where they ought to be. It's taking a long time but it's wild to see them find their way back into their proper position. Humans are freaky.
I had to have 7 of my 8 front teeth pulled because they hadn't fallen out by age 8.

I had 4 extra teeth, 2 of which were incisors. My adult teeth came in behind my baby teeth, so I had 12 teeth pulled in one day in 3rd grade. My dentist used to joke that I sent his kid to college.

GirlWho has a sacral dimple, which caused a brief spina bifida scare. She still has the dimple, and apparently always will.

And I am just a genetic freak, period.
I have an extra intervertebral space between two of my lumbar vertebra. My chiropractor isn't sure what it might mean, or if it will do anything. And of course, I have two of my toes that are conjoined, siamese toes.

AlphaGeek has a friend that for some reason had one regular size kidney, and one GIANT kidney...and the lung on that side was half the size of a regular lung. Freaky.
Wait, you can have the extra nip removed? Tell me more. When I got pregnant, I found out I had a third boob in my armpit. It did all the other things your other two boobs do during pregnancy and it was excruciating for 11 months of breastfeeding. One night I thought of just knifing it. They told me I just had to suck it up and deal. WTF!
bap2, that sounds awful! Maybe now that pregnancy and breastfeeding are done, they could remove it? It's quick outpatient surgery. One more incentive - The Boy's doctor said there's a tiny, less-than-1% chance that 3rd nips are at risk for breast cancer.

I had to have a lot of my baby teeth pulled because the adult teeth were growing in. It totally sucked, but I lived.
As far as I know, I'm mostly wild-type (scientific term that other nerds might find amusing).
I was so sad when I read bap2's post originally, but didn't have a chance to reply. Why does it seem like women too frequently get told to "suck it up" for female-related medical issues? I have such lingering resentment over that point from pregnancy, labor and breastfeeding...

Maybe the same reason men are told to "walk off" muscular-skeletal pain and told "don't be a pussy" when they're depressed.

Mo had a giant kidney but it was because as he was cooking in the womb the ureter was partially blocked. He got it fixed when he was 18 months. It's not that rare and took up most of the cases of our pediatric urologist.
