The new year is upon us. I know many people eschew the resolution, but I am a huge fan of setting goals. Like, I got massively depressed after I finished school because I was adrift without goals for a bit. So, do people have resolutions for the new year?

I would like to find time to run three times a week, save more money, and be more careful about my diet. This semester has been a tough one and I have been eating poorly. I also want to get two articles completed and out for consideration and work on getting my play out there to be read.

I had vowed to get a full time job by the time I was 35 (which I realize sounds...) but I am full time this semester, so that goal is achieved. :)

1) be able to walk without either crutches or a cane. (we are going on 7 months on crutches - WTF!!!)

2) be able to ride my pony (this time I will not fall off)

3) get a job that will allow more time to ride my pony (if I ride more than i will ride better)

4) take the pony to an "A" rated show and win a ribbon (ok, I really really really want a blue - 1st place)

5) oh, and i guess spend more quality time with the boys and doug.

Yay! I love resolutions, too. I usually try to keep them to three, broad enough that I can meet them in a number of different ways, and ... I guess that's about it. Last year my goals were to reconnect with my creative drive, hike more, and find my way back to some sort of spiritual life. I did all three in their own ways and am fairly happy with how it went, despite how tough the year was in other ways.

This year, I want to increase the amount of hiking I do, green our house more, and eat healthier (starting with a return to vegetarianism, which I've already begun). For the house-greening, today we replaced several of our non-stick pots and pans with non-non-stick ones. I also want to start a produce garden, look into building a gray water system, and lots of other ideas Alan and I still need to talk about. They probably won't all get done this year, but at least we can be more proactive about it.

Oh, and get out of debt. Which again won't happen all in one year but we really need to address that now before it gets too far out of hand.

Thanks for the thread! I hadn't actually written them down yet.

1) Grow my hair back out and rock a new style. I've had the same coiffure for 5 years and I feel the need for a change. I got a cut this morning and all the tools to maintain the style.

2) Health malaise be damned my annual pilgrimage to NYC will happen in March.

3) Socialize in real time more.

Let's see -

1.) get my budget under control - this will involve the refinancing of some loans, and possibly the liquidation of some retirement $$ to get some debt paid down. I had no idea moving from Seattle to Houston would still be costing me!

2.) continue working on the health issue. I'm getting more things nailed down now that I found out I'm allergic to...well, the South.

3.) keep up the relationship work with AlphaGeek. It's been incredibly painful at times, but I'm not silently resenting him all the time now, which is a good thing, since that kind of feeling destroys my liver, and other pesky psychosomatic stuff.

4.) not get lazy with the childrearing. It's tempting to let the Wii do the work, but I can't do it.

1. Plan towards making an AWESOME HOUSE. That is the goal to achieve sometime before 2021. This and this are the primary inspiring models right now.
2. Become a better teacher.
3. Become a better planner.
4. Practice self-kindness.
Totally fucking awesome.

Are you sitting down?

Okay, I'm giving up booze.   I know...well, after this drink I'm totally giving up booze.   I want to be able to put on my wedding dress on my next anniversary and there are too many calories in beer so it's got to go.    I'd like to floss regularly too but I don't want to get too crazy so I'm not making that a resolution.

Whoa Kana! Hmm, I'm thinking booze will be on next year's list. I *need* it this year. No wedding dress in sight so I'm golden. ;)

I don't really make specific resolutions for New Year's per say...  Although I think I'll keep with the theme from last year - be good to myself - and well, less bitchy again.  Oh and more sleep damn it.

I mentioned this on another thread but I made the resolution to get an IUD as soon as medically possible after baby number 4 (and the second in two years) makes her debut in May.  No more deployment homecoming presents for us.   Sailor is getting fixed but I'm not taking any chances.  We got pregnant this time while making the should we or shouldn't we decision.
Hmmm... all excellent ideas.  I want to follow up on my migraines and improve how I'm handling them.  I want to enjoy my children more and resent their needy/clingyness less.  I want to spend a minimum of one evening a week face to face with my spouse.
Just be careful what order you try that in ;-)
