Never say it can't get worse.  He will win, and he will be sworn in on a copy of the NRA charter.

Damn. That's bad.
The guy with the Tent City?
OH NO. ARPAIO IS THE DEVIL. Liberals had better take their obama stickers off of their cars and never ever talk about politics, or they'll be strung up.
Mr. Black is skeptical about this, because the guy's 77 and has been threatening to run for governor for the past 10 years. Plus, he'd be running against the woman who signed the "Even When It Was The Bears, I Knew It Was the Immigants" bill into law, so what would be the point?

That's what Mr. Black says, anyway. I'd never even heard of this guy until today, although 2010 does seem to be a good year for siths. Guess we'll have to wait and see...
Oh, crap. That guy is AWFUL. You know it's bad when the American Bar Association newsletter does an article on Maricopa County talking about how they're pretty sure he's completely corrupt. The shit he pulls reminds me of what happened in Kern County, CA in the late 80s, when one district attorney and some really terrible social work interviewing methods resulted in several dozen city leaders spending time in jail for being satanists (all later completely disproven due to the total lack of anything other than circumstantial evidence). There's a book about it, though I forget the name. Mean Justice, maybe?
I'm telling you, there's a cozy little basement room for four with your family's name on it up here in the NW.

~~It even has its own chamber pot!~~
Did someone put something into the water in AZ?
I work with a lot of people who like him plenty. Regarding the tent city, one of my coworkers--a guy that I like quite a bit--quoted Arpaio thusly: "If it's good enough for our troops, it's good enough for our convicts." This guy, who had been in the service in the Middle East, loved him for it.

Sorry to say it, JTC, but it ain't just old white males.
He's not running. Saving himself to be Sarah Palin's running mate in 2012, I guess...
Yeah, I can't speak for Arizona. But in reality, many of the older people I know have amazingly open minds. My grandma loosened up on so much as she got older.

But my (male) cousins in their 20s to 40s are the ones freaking out about the topic du jour...census, health care, etc.

I wish that were true, JTC. I hope that my own experience isn't a representative sample, but at least a few Navajo, Hopi, and Latino Arizonans have expressed their support of Arpaio to me. I think that they may skew a little more conservative than people tend to realize.
