In support of the effort to stir things up a bit here on OS, what have y0u seen/heard/read lately that I should check out?

I just watched Catfish, which I thought was pretty good until the last 30 minutes which I thought were awesome.  It went in a direction I did not expect.  Next on my documentary list is "Dear Zachary".

I'm currently reading the second book in the Hunger Games.  Nice, easy, escapist reading.

I'm always woefully behind on new music, so hopefully you all will have some good suggestions.

I am SO the wrong person to respond to this! I don't even have cable anymore. We stream everything, so my news is usually what shows up on my homepage headlines or links from facebook. I let Pandora choose my 'new' artists - or if someone mentions something they really like, I'll check it out. I've been avoiding my books - I'm stuck on "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell", so not exactly the latest release.

I am no longer turning into an old fogey. I AM an old fogey.

Things producers plied me with free alcohol to pimp: Cougar Town. If you liked Scrubs, or if you like absurdist comedy about adults drinking wine and doing random shit, this is a good show. Minus the god awful title. Over the holidays I managed to get into a fan party and got a t-shirt and free alcohol. But I went to the party because I genuinely like the show. Also, Community.

Things I'm just promoting without free booze: both the book and the movie of Hugo, the game Bananagrams, the book The Book Thief, Skylanders, and for music I don't have anything new, just that I really like downloading mixes from rockmyrun.com for working out. And Rose Elliot's books on Low Carb vegetarian if you are interested in low carb vegetarian (small audience, I'm guessing).

Ooh! I'm part of that audience! I'll check it out. Community is the only show I watched at all (via Hulu, at that) so now that it's not being renewed I officially have no relationship at all with the television. Feeling very 21st century.

I've been trying to reintroduce music to my life. It used to be so important and then pfft. I've found that I'm particularly interested in the unique and location-specific - I need a story to make me feel like I'm connecting to someone making the music. Here are two groups that we heard when we went out for our anniversary: Round Mountain and Boreal Tordu

Anyone else have a regional music favorite?

I don't think Community is canceled. Yet. Hope remains. :)

Bless you, mcg for the rockmyrun link. I've needed that. I'm making AlphaGeek do....something with it involving my ipod!  I keep hearing about Community, so the next time on on hulu, I'll have to watch it.

You're welcome. :) If I don't have music, I can't keep going in the gym. I'm not a natural athlete. :)

Re: Dear Zachary-- It was a good documentary. With that being said:  NO, NO A MILLION TIMES NO. YOU CANNOT WATCH THIS AS A PARENT A PART OF YOU WILL DIE. YOU CANNOT GET IT BACK.....EVER.

You've been warned.

I finally started watching Community and I love it so much, I think I will marry it. I've been watching and rewatching Seasons 1 & 2 dvds from the library for weeks now. All other shows pale in comparison.

McG - Banagrams is my all time favorite game and I've gotten the family hooked on it too.  Woot! Woot!

Bap - um, wow.  Now I'm not sure I want to...but of course, now I am even more curious.  Ugh.

I've been spending too much time on BBC police dramas lately - both old (e.g. Touch of Frost) and new (Luther, Whitechapel). I've been reading a bunch of young adult novels recommended by my 14 year old - quite good, easy and quick read, and they give us something to talk about (currently the Ranger Apprentice series and Beka Cooper - fantasy but vampire-free...I'm pretty burnt out on the whole vampire lit scene!)

Music? Whatever Michael puts on the mp3 player...sorry!

I started reading Sense of an ending by Julian Barnes and so far I'm very interested.

We watch Modern Family and The Office on TV, but those aren't new.

Anything by David Mitchell, especially intersting because Cloud Atlas is being made into a movie.  I have no idea HOW they're going to do that, given the different narration styles (it's really like reading 9 books by different authors, he's so amazing!).  Christopher Moore for a good chuckle and a quick fluffy read.

Community was resurrected and will continue.  There was just too much outcry.  Too bad the same couldn't be said for Firefly and Arrested Development.  Hubby has been absolutely obsessed with back episodes of Breaking Bad and The Wire, but neither can be watched in earshot of kids.
