My husband, Sailor, is deployed right now and I want to send him a mixed cd. We are two Geeks in Love and that is the title and inspiration.

So far I have

“Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want”- The Smiths (the sadsack scene for Duckie in Pretty in Pink)

"In Your Arms" Hellogoodbye

Any suggestions?

I'm a sucker for "This Must Be the Place" by Talking Heads.  Loki wanted to walk down the aisle to it, and I was all for it, but we ended up going a more classical route so his brother (a classical pianist) could play for us.
You Gave Your Love to Me Softly by Weezer

It's a B-Side track of theirs but I can email it if ya need it.
Here's the thing. What variety of geek are we talking about? Literature geek? Science geek? History geek? I offer options below for all.

On Facebook I suggested "My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors" by Moxy Fruvous there is also "We Fell in Love" (http://www.mp3lyrics.org/m/moxy-fruvous/fell-in-love/). To that I add, "Your Moon" by Jonathon Coulton which is a love song from Charon to Pluto or "Soft Rocked by Me" which is more or less what you might expect from a soft rock song parody ("you will be soft rocked by me. I use the passive voice to show you how gentle I'll be.") "Code Monkey" is pretty awesome, if you happen to have your own code monkey. "The Book of Love" (there's a lot of versions of this, originally it was by the Magnetic Fields). "Deciphering Me" by Brooke Frasier. "World Before Columbus" by Suzanne Vega. Sting's "Fields of Gold" is off an album with a title from Canterbury Tales and I swear to god uses lines and imagery from a Shakespearean poem. "Strange Currencies" by REM. Bob Schneider has a couple of songs out lately with a lot of literary allusions: "40 Dogs (like Romeo and Juliet)" or "Let the Light" which imagines the Wicked Witch hooking up with the Tin Man in a cute way. Maybe "Imperfectly" by Ani Difranco?
Maybe 80's new wave geek? Psychedelic Furs!
Shawn's a lit, theater, gamer, and history geek. Actually he's a Bucket Geek, he'll geek out over a new gadget and then turn around and get geeky about Thomas Hardy.

I was thinking Me First and The Gimme Gimmes' cover of Rainbow Connection should go on there and I'm Kissing You by Des'ree from Romeo and Juliet.

MM- I love that song. It's definitely going on there. This version would have been perfect for a walk down the aisle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG2NL72DhqA
Hmm... I think that I somehow do not understand what kind of music you are after. :)

I don't know if they qualify as geeky, but the Freelance Whales album is pretty awesome.  Generator, the first track, is a fave.

Maybe something by They Might Be Giants?

Fade Into You- Mazzy Star

500 Miles- The Proclaimers

Business Time- Flight of the Conchords

What a great link!  I sent it to Loki for VD (the only thing he's getting! LOL)  Thanks for sharing that.

Ooh, love Fade Into You.  Also McG mentioned Ani DiFranco and I love her "Overlap".  I have a double CD of Indigo Girls with a live-radio version of "Power of Two" on it that is my all time favorite love song.

This is a fun thread!

Business Time and 500 miles are definitely love songs for geeks. Soft Rocked By Me is going on there too. Sailor loves Coulton.
