I recently took a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction class that was really enlightening :)
it's based on a model created by this guy
People from many different walks of life were there and we all had very different reasons for being there too. Anybody else taken a class like this or "done meditation"?

I meditate once a day at least, often multiple times. It's part of the martial art I practice and teach. Many different kinds of meditations, as well.
That depends is meditation code for something else that starts with the letter "m" because I could be a once a dayer as well. ;P

My mom is a new age medicine card type and led me through a guided mediation once and my mom-in-law is into energy work and did some energy renewal practice on me once. Notice the "once". I think when you do something spiritual like this with the aide of another person it helps for them not to be related to you by law(blood) or marriage.

I am all about relaxation exercises visualize a triangle while you breath in for 10 sec, hold for 10, and release for 10. True meditating for more than say 5 minutes has eluded me though, I just think of something I should do or at least check on and do it, or I in bed before going to sleep and fall asleep.
Yup. I've been meditating more or less for 20 years. I've done lots of different kinds (soft focus, walking, chanting, deep relaxation, in a group, by myself, etc.) and I love them all, for slightly different reasons. I've also gone through periods when I do it every day, and periods when I don't do it for a long time. When I come back to it, it always feels fantastic.

It's not easy though. It does take some practice to get beyond so-called "monkey mind" to that deeper space. And it's true that you're always being pulled back from that space by your thoughts. I've heard people say to just flick the thoughts away like flies.

ferret, is this the first meditation class you've taken? How was your experience, besides enlightening?

By the way, here's a recent blog post on this topic. Don't know if you saw it -- if not, funny you should bring it up now. :)
I hadn't seen it before thanks for sharing it here. The parts about anxiety I must go and re-read.

or else
I knew there were thoughts and emotions I could learn how to deal with better. Meditation has taught me to observe and sometimes not participate in those thoughts that lead to destructive emotions/situations. I've been able to observe a pattern starting and change directions before things became really uncomfortable to me. I really liked the mindfulness meditation class because of the group interaction and the fact that they gave us guided meditation cd's with lots of tips/ introduction and frequently asked questions. They really encouraged us to modify the instructions until we found something that worked for us.
