Magic rocks.
3 for 13.50 toys from Walgreens
a "gardening kit" - buy a cheap little pot, put some soil in it, put it in a wine bottle giftbag (this is so it doesn't shake around and spill), add a pair of kids gardening gloves, seeds and maybe a little watering can. If you can't use potting soil, get one of those peat things to go in the pot.
check the closet for something your kid was given but never opened
check the other closet where you keep the party supplies for goodie bag crap that was leftover from another year
Check the internet for the nearest 24 hour stores, this time of year a lot of grocery stores expand their book and toy selections.
Any more details? Age? Gender?
a reflective vest for biking? that's my last-minute idea...and now i have to find it first thing in the a.m.

For what genre of person?  Small child?  Large child?  Adult?

I am a big gift card fan... movie passes, amazon, decent restaurant or even a restaurant with decent takeout.

Maybe it's just me, but small, silly things. I spent $50 at Borders yesterday just off their little tables for stocking stuffers. The ChimpSticks chopsticks for Ebay were especially cute.
I left details totally open so that anybody should suggest an idea for anybody else.  Just put suggested age/genre of person/gender of person if needed in with the description of the gift.
