Kids shows and innuendo
Am I the only one that is hearing the innuendos in all the kids shows?
Like in Bob the Builder, there's this weird love triangle between Bob, Wendy and some dance teacher: "It's so hot in here Bob! We'll just have to do it outside!"
And this "outdoor dance" has red-lights strung up all over Farmer Pickles field, and Wendy's got a short, shiny dress on, and Bob's all agog. Now he's giving Wendy the "rowr!" eyes and his dance teacher is mad. Oh, now some hawt latin guy with a mustache guy just sashayed onto the dance floor and swept off Wendy's rival.
Seriously? When did Bob the Builder get so 90210?

haha!! i don't know! we don't watch that one, but i have seen bits in other kids shows that make me stop and go, "Whaaaaaa?"

I dunno because we mostly watch old Scooby Doo episodes around here (current favorite: the one with Batman and Robin, where Robin is wearing no pants).
However, there's a writer named Margaret Magowan who writes a blog called Reel Girl and for the San Francisco Chronicle who talks about these issues a lot. For example, she wrote this column on sexist jokes in the new Aardman Pirates! movie:

We're past the Bob the Builder phase around here, but I always imagined a love triangle between Emily Elizabeth, Charlie, and Jetta in 'Clifford, The Big Red Dog.' I think it was my way of embroidering on a kids' show to make it more interesting to my adult brain, so it didn't completely stifle.

We haven't watched Bob the Builder for a couple of years but I totally remember the sexual tension between Bob and Wendy. Good to know they're moving the storyline forward.

Oh, and wait until the iCarly-type shows.... forget innuendo, they are just outright inappropriate. A little innuendo would be appreciated.

I'm more horrified about the "the 1% rocks" message that my kid is getting. He pretty much only watches Thomas and Bob the Builder and what story line does he pick up for his follow-up play?: "Mommy, I'm using my Legos to build a summer house for the Duke and Duchess." At least he's prepared to be a member of the underclass?

Hahah, BUN, totally. Even tree-hugging Diego has a backpack that springs him all these utlra-cool high-tech tools. I've given up trying to explain to Ducky that whatever he puts in his Diego backpack is what's going to end up coming out of it. There is no snowmobile in there.

Oh totally there is! Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was even on The Soup because of it (something about a triangle bush)... Not our imaginations... ha!
