Idle chitchat - bursting with anticipation edition
Waiting on a phone call to tell us when we're going to Texas and what position DW gets. Eep! So I figured I'd check in here and see what everyone's been up to lately. We haven't had a random thread in a while.
I'm missing my girl dog, but my cat is working overtime to entertain me, and seems to be enjoying his position as lone competitor for my attention during the day.
My child is STILL in school. I'm getting tired of hiking to the bus stop.

Going to go take some pics this weekend with DW's new Holga. Should be fun.
I've been working on my family's genealogy lately, and found out the family plantation became part of Great Falls park here in VA. May head to the main library branch, because they have lots of info and documents about my ancestors. I found old photos of my ancestors, and it's weird to see a resemblance, but it's there. Also uncovered something of a scandal in my husband's family, involving some living family members. And DaddyWho is a Cherokee princess. Actually, he's a direct descendant of Nancy Ward, the last Beloved Woman of the tribe. But I tell him he's a pretty pretty princess.
Thinking about joining DAR, but wondering if I'd lose all my hipster cred if I did.
Also, I'm Irish. Didn't know that.
So what's happenin' with y'all?

I used the handheld shower on Ebay instead of just a plain bath. That was so exciting that she got worked into a gigantic frenzy, and she's now screeching like a banshee in the other room. I've got my work cut out for me tonight. Crazy kid.

how was the picture taking with the Holga? i need to take some pictures with mine soon, but i want to develop them myself so that will involve signing up for a photography class at the CC and i think they are already full for the fall semester. boo. i might try showing up and adding the class if i have the time available come the fall. they also need to have the medium format equipment. if not, i might just invest in my own neg holder and lens for the enlarger.
other randoms:
i hate my job. i can't bitch about it on FB because my friend got me the job and i don't really want to share with her and her cousin (who also works there). it's an "easy" job, but what is hard about it is that i'm expected to be doing 15 things at once, they are all "priority", and i am getting singled out by the owners to get the bitching out. the other night i had the nerve to use the bathroom and when i came out 90 seconds later one of the owners reprimanded me (borderline berating) for not having waters ready to go out to the 3 groups of people who walked in the restaurant while i was in the restroom. never mind there were NO clean glasses yet from the dishwashers. then, just for shits and giggles i guess, she felt the need to come back and berate me a second time 10 minutes later. you know, in case i forgot what she said the first time.
but i might not have to work there for long! i went by and saw an old boss of mine at her coffee shop and she basically offered me a job. it's about 95% a sure thing. i'm waiting to hear back from her. the hours would be better, the job would be more fun, and she is a dream to work for. i love her to pieces! she's a tiny, spunky panamanian lady and does not berate people.
in other news, the baby has caught the chicken pox. so far it seems to be a mild case, but it could possibly get worse. he's been fussy all afternoon and i don't know what to do for him. i'm calling our doctor first thing in the morning to see if she wants me to bring him in. he's not running a fever (yet) and i hope thing thing passes quickly. i'm tired of teh sick in the house.
the baby is minutes away from crawling. he's started pushing himself up on all 4s but then launches himself backward. i don't know if i'm ready for a mobile baby yet. this house does not lend itself to closing off the dangerous rooms like the kitchen. i might have to break out the baby corral. the house isn't really set up for that either, but it is better than the alternative of the baby getting into the kitchen while i'm cooking.

Now I really want to get the boys some bento boxes.
We're taking crazy on the road for a country wide tour. First stop (this Friday) we're in Illinois. Then it's on to Albuquerque, NM for the 4th of July. We're probably going to swing up through Colorado and visit Rocky Mountain National Park. Then it's back to Illinois for the rest of the summer.
When we get back I'm trying out for the local Roller Derby Division. :)

Can we keep the Roller Derby thing on the down low until I've joined up. Turns out it's a show up and your in kind of thing. If my family caught wind of it on Facebook I'd probably hear from everyone via phone about it. And I don't feel like talking everyone down just yet. :)
