Idle chitchat - bursting with anticipation edition

Waiting on a phone call to tell us when we're going to Texas and what position DW gets. Eep! So I figured I'd check in here and see what everyone's been up to lately. We haven't had a random thread in a while.

I'm missing my girl dog, but my cat is working overtime to entertain me, and seems to be enjoying his position as lone competitor for my attention during the day.

My child is STILL in school. I'm getting tired of hiking to the bus stop.

Got her an awesome lunchbox that's like a bento, but all one piece. http://www.goodbyn.com/goodbyn/default.aspx

Going to go take some pics this weekend with DW's new Holga. Should be fun.

I've been working on my family's genealogy lately, and found out the family plantation became part of Great Falls park here in VA. May head to the main library branch, because they have lots of info and documents about my ancestors. I found old photos of my ancestors, and it's weird to see a resemblance, but it's there. Also uncovered something of a scandal in my husband's family, involving some living family members. And DaddyWho is a Cherokee princess. Actually, he's a direct descendant of Nancy Ward, the last Beloved Woman of the tribe. But I tell him he's a pretty pretty princess.

Thinking about joining DAR, but wondering if I'd lose all my hipster cred if I did.

Also, I'm Irish. Didn't know that.

So what's happenin' with y'all?

Hurray for big news by phone calls, and good luck!

I kind of burnt my oatmeal this morning. It's really gross.

Also while making oatmeal, I somehow managed to snap and break the lid of my brown sugar canister. I don't know what I did, I was just trying to close it and evidently don't know my own strength because it snapped and pieces of ceramic flew everywhere. The greatest tragedy of it all was the loss of all that brown sugar. I'd just refilled it yesterday. I'm truly saddened by this - and now I have to get a new canister, which surely won't match and usually they are sold as sets, not on their own....I'm a little too upset by this.

Moving on, I got to see Ri dance in a performance this weekend. It's the first time she's performed with her new school. The advancement she's made in one year is astounding. They did a demo, a modern piece, a traditional ballet and a more quirky light-hearted ballet about stage fright. It was so fantastic!! I still don't get how this graceful talented thing has any relation to me, but I assure you she is mine.
After being potty trained for over a year, the Bean has decided that it's now time to pee standing up. Huzzah!

Also, my daughter has finally decided that she likes spending time and hugging me.
Hooray!!! Both for the job and you coming back to Texas. =)

I'm getting married in 3 days and I'm moving in two weeks.

I've been lunch box hunting and decided to get these for 1st and 2nd Kid http://www.lunchboxes.com/go-green-lunch-box.html
Today is Field Day at the Dragon's school. It's raining. Boo. But apparently they're still going to have it. There were two huge bouncy houses on the playground this morning. I wish we'd had bouncy houses for Field Day when I was growing up. All we had was potato sacks! Uphill both ways!

I had forgotten all about Field Day until I got the notice a week or two ago. Stupidly, I agreed to volunteer at it this afternoon. I don't know what my assignment will be, but I'm hoping it involves pie.

I wish I'd realized I could just go watch the games and cheer the Dragon on without actually volunteering. I have to give up my habit of overcommitting.
I have also been lunch box shopping. I was going to go with this one, but am now looking at the Go Green or the Goodbyn. Thanks for that! I think they would work out a lot better for our needs.

I also cleaned out the pantry and cupboards (YECH!) and recycled about 5 lbs worth of reusable plastic containers/lids that don't match. The oldest thing found: 2 cans of Cranberry Jelly that expired in 2008.

I think the Achiever may be teething again. He woke up at 1am and I didn't get him down again until BigKrygowski got up at 4:30am. He's also wanting to nurse ALL THE TIME. And here we were down to just one quick bedtime nurse a couple of weeks ago. Sigh.

It's raining here too, so playground is out after naptime is over. Trying to decide if we should go to the library instead or just continue to clean out and throw things away. We need to have a garage sale.
Raining here too! But small one and I went to a free movie (one of the many "kids clubs" the cinemas have in the summer) and then went to lunch. And along with us came a good friend of mine who is home for the summer from her teaching position in freaking CANADA. So I was very, very glad to see her. Then we went and bought a rake so when it dries out a bit we can finish cleaning up the backyard. And I am excited about Kiwi's wedding (tried on the full outfit and got spouse approval). Oh! And though I keep forgetting, today is spouse and my 9th wedding anniversary, and 12th anniversary over all. I think to celebrate we're going to do some filing and pack some stuff. :)
Rockstar farmer's market this morning. Took the bus, instead of the bike, so I could keep the Kid awake. And now feeling a need to buy shoes and sunglasses I can't afford.

And trying to decide which of 70 projects to tackle during naptime. Or whether just to play here.
Well congrats on DW's new job!

I've been at home for two days with horrible laryngitis and a ridiculous cough. I think if I went to work they'd have sprayed Lysol directly on me (since on monday the supervisor made a point of depositing a can right next to my keyboard)

In 15 minutes i have a phone interview for a temp-to-perm job, possibly at a non-profit I've already interviewed at. I'll know if that's the case soon. I also have another call to return to schedule another interview, and I have an in-person interview on Monday with a federal government contractor. For that one I have a 50/50 shot because two managers each dropped off one resume (friends) with the person in charge of hiring. They really need the position filled and started yesterday. This is how my job search goes. I have a flurry of activity and hopes getting high, then it's quiet for several weeks. It's very annoying.

Ebay is beginning to pee on the toilet at daycare. She's got 4 kids all around the same age, so she's working on training them all at the same time. The oldest boy's got it, the youngest girl doesn't, and Ebay and the other boy are on the fence. She's proud of herself. Just seems to have trouble actually telling her body to void.

The girls are loving having a dog finally. My brother is staying with us while he gets back on his feet, and he's got a black lab/pitbull mix who is so sweet and funny. She lets Ebay hug her and skritch her belly (and once Al did the horseback ride thing), and Big O reads while Onyx acts as a pillow. The dog seems to love it.

Hate the DC heat and humidity.
Hope it's going well, HBD!

Went fine. I won't hear from them until after I've interviewed with the company that needs to fill the job right away, so it may be moot.
All I'm anticipating is a lame ultrasound tomorrow, for which I need to drink 32 ounces of water and somehow not pee. Boo. (And no, it's not the fun kind of pregnancy-related ultrasound.)
Ahhhhh! No news yet. The guy he was supposed to talk to was stuck in meetings all day. He got a message to DW that says "good news" but no details.
