I got accused of "coming at me all bitchy" by an opposing party in a family law case today, which is a new one for my legal career.  My feathers have been ruffled about it all day (side note: calling your ex's attorney "bitchy" scores you negative one million points, documented in one very huffy email that you can be certain will land in front of a judge at some point).

What's chapping your ass today?

Doctors offices that close early Friday afternoons, making it so that I can't get a hold of paperwork for an appointment tomorrow. Grrrrr!

Wow Kommish. I'd be pissed too. What an inappropriate and disrespectful comment.

The thing that's aggravating me today is that I am so busy busy busy at work that I haven't had any time to do scholarship. As I got one maybe publication out last year (it's still being shopped) I have to get stuff out this year. A bunch of stuff. Otherwise I lose my job. You know, the job that keeps me too busy to do the work to keep the job.

kommish, that SUCKS, and it'd be still burning me, too.  My issue is along the same lines as mcglory13, although for me it's more like "if I don't finish this thesis, I still have this great job, but I won't get a raise, and I'll feel like I let the haters win."  With that said I'm about to go mark 8 essays to earn myself time to work on my chapter.

Another thing that's really got me upset and feeling helpless is a friend in Minneapolis who just got in a bicycle accident and has a broken jaw, broken finger, some other injuries, and smashed out four teeth.  Because he's a waiter, he doesn't have insurance, and is facing tens of thousands in medical bills.  Shouldn't the offender's insurance cover this?  This situation is also underscoring how little I know about how such things work in your country.

I just got back from a whole-family big box grocery shopping experience. Need I say more?

kommish, that's appalling. :(

I had to spend $120 on a new car battery yesterday, and my speech therapy  license expired because of a stupid glitch in the PA bureaucracy. I hated EVERYTHING yesterday.

That's awful, gg.  I'm so sorry for your friend.  Bike accidents are terrible.

So, whether the offender's insurance covers the bills depends on a couple things: 1) they have to have insurance and 2) the accident has to have been their fault (whether it has to be entirely their fault or just partially for them to be liable depends on the state).  If your friend also owns a car and has uninsured motorist coverage for that, their own insurance may cover the bills if the driver is at fault and not insured.

Bottom line: they should get a personal injury attorney who specifically does bike law.  PM me if they want referrals.  I don't know anyone in the Twin Cities, but know attorneys here who do.

My Friday vent.... it has to do with cub scouts, a 10-year-old boy who was elected Denner of his Webelos den and was so proud, and it meant that he had to step up to the leadership role and help with planning the meeting... which he did, including e-mailing his Den Leader all week and putting together a Leave No Trace power point complete with a gazillion animations and transtions like only a 5th grade kid can do, but with an underlying message of being kind to the Earth, and then he planned a craft and gathered the supplies, all on his own, and planned with his Den Leader to be there early to set this all up, and it just made his week to feel all leader-y and grown up and have pulled this off....

... and then his stupid father was LATE to pick him up to get him there because he had to take a nap............. and didn't update me on that until after it was impossible for me to get kid there myself.....

ARG

Also, somehow in all this, said father called me a bitch, so kommish -- sorry you got called bitchy, it really does cut to the core.

Once I got past the initial shock of the statement, I think it almost sounds like a compliment!   You must be doing something right to get the "other" side to vent like that.  Hope that helps :)

It's monday, so I'll have to save up my vent for later this week.

Kommish, that's unbelievable!! How very unprofessional! Sorry.

I'd like to add my Thursday vent...

Work has been an absolute fucking nightmare for weeks, my relationship is a hot steaming mess just waiting to explode in my face. Again., El D's school (not the one I tried to get him but was rejected by the school board) is a bigger hot mess than me, I had a 'plumbing incident' this week that left me without water for 24 hours (wah. I know), my roots and greys are showing, I can't take my run as often as I'd like because of work and the rainy swamp ass inducing weather here, my mother's passive aggressiveness is eating at me, got dumped by my BFF, Ex is being a complete ass about an upcoming 'visit', and I need to mop the house.

I rarely (as in once every 3-5 years) have days when I just want to tell everyone to fuck right off and go to bed at 6PM... but today...today could be that day.

PS

kommish - you were called bitchy because you're representing the ex AND you were probably right about something that pissed them off. People blow. Sorry, hon.

Oh man, G.G.  Here's a GIANT internet hug and a whole pitcher of mojitos.  I wish I could do something to help. :(

Oh, GG, I'm sorry.  I had a week of first world disasters - left my wallet in the car that goes to work with my partner an hour away, on the day that I had to get a potential new car inspected by a mechanic, got the car inspected, found too much money's worth of repairs needing done to buy the new car, so paid $100 inspection for a car I don't want, left my phone on the bus, walked into the house only to be barraged with questions about whether the little man will be able to watch The Dark Knight when he is five and I said no, maybe 12 so he yelled at me and told me he hated me and I couldn't come to his birthday party, and then my watch battery died.  That was Monday.

Days like that, I just go to bed with the little man.  Snuggle/snoozing with him usually makes me feel better.  Except when he's yelling at me about Batman.
