So, what is your most hated name? And apologies to all who have kids with these names. I have to go with Nevaeh. If only because of that stupid band that started this whole thing.

I love the different names that are out there now and even some goofy spellings. I think I picked up a Gaelic baby name book at a garage sale and my husband picked out every weird spelling name including one he didn't even know how to pronounce. He picked Euoghen (Owen), and Jayden which I immediately vetoed because that is Will Smith's kid's name. I still kind of like Willow, but I know she is becoming more popular because of her kooky fashion sense and music.
I don't get how people can "suddenly" hate on gender bending names as they have been around awhile. I have a male friend Pat and a mother-in-law Pat, and no lie I have an Aunt Terri and Uncle Terry on the same side of the family. My ex-boyfriend named his daughter Passionate which at first I thought was iffy, but definitely prefer to Chastity and Charity.
Chastity is the one name that pisses me off to no end, and that it is only a girl's name makes my ears steam. Marijuana is far more likely than Chastity throughout the life of a human. Shithead is a tough one to live with. I keep thinking that it must have been the worst pregnancy ever, or the mom was so surprised that pushing out a baby was so similar to pushing out a bowel movement.
WTF GENOCIDE? Why not ... I dunno, Holocaust. Or jebus, I'm stuck on genocide.
I don't mind gender bender names. I do hate strange spellings. No need for four p's and a silent q! And I'm with Kiwi on the whole stripper names thing. Who names a baby (without red hair) Blaze ... a girl baby?!
Permalink Reply by DLBK on May 2, 2011 at 6:56am I don't see my sons' names on the list..but I think we may have made a mistake with the freshly hatched one. Everyone praised our choice for son #1, Dominic Ramon. We call him Dom. Then we chose Gabriel Thomas for the second one. SO MANY people have called him "Gabrielle" (nurses, doctors, friends, little kids) and not in the "This is the proper Spanish pronunciation of it" way. Some have even flat out said said it's a girl name, or "Is this a boy or a girl?." I don't know if the Gabbys have taken it back from the Gabes, but....CRAP:).
Also as a teacher there are names I can't ever use because of....past things:).
Permalink Reply by rommie on May 4, 2011 at 12:46pm Ditto on the traditional names spelled wonkily. I don't know why it bothers me, and I'd never say anything, but it does. There's a Kloee in the group of local moms-with-babies, and it drives me nuts. Of course, I'm not big on Chloe either, but that's just me. I've lived my life having to correct people's spelling of my first name because my parents to change a common name for family purposes. We had to have our wedding invitations reprinted three times because someone kept deciding to "correct" my name. Moose is a Michael...whatever, I like the name and always have. People are welcome to dislike his name just as much as I dislike the ones they pick out.
I've also noticed that I tend to not get along at all with parents who name their kids less common things (Zephyr, Bracken, etc.), so that probably colors my opinion quite a bit.

Permalink Reply by ruth on May 5, 2011 at 4:20am I knew a Blaise. I think that's how he spelled it. I'm going to say it's an Irish thing. Even without the read hair. But that shouldn't be a girl's name.

Permalink Reply by ruth on May 5, 2011 at 4:22am Blaise was an Armenian saint, and a man. Didn't you go to Catholic school?
